Pen Used by McKinley in Fort Hall Lands Signing
Mayor Rice of Pocatello received the pen President McKinley used to sign the Fort Hall reservation land cession bill on June 7 1900. Senator Shoup notes the pen as a valued souvenir and urges its display in the city. Agent Caldwell’s authority on ceded lands is disputed as experts argue the ceded domain is public land and open only by presidential proclamation.
