Alameda Idaho residents rejected the liquor by the drink proposal by 293 to 428 in official returns. Voters also opposed licensing slot machines by 308 to 406, with liquor by the drink being binding. Total turnout was 714 of 1577 on the rolls with ward tallies listed.
Veterans will draw for 43 homestead farm units in the Hunt area of the delta project in southeastern Idaho. The drawing is set for Jerome at 2 p.m. next Saturday. S. R. Marean, district superintendent, outlined the procedure and Beverly Lance of Eden Idaho will draw the names after the honor of first name drawing is extended to Lt. Gov. Donald S. The wife of Lt. Keith K. Monroe of Williamsport Pennsylvania was wounded by machinegun fire while riding in a jeep on official business near Tiglio on the Yugoslav lines. The jeep was hit by six bullets. Mrs. Monroe sustained a leg wound, the driver Pvt. Eldon Morett was scratched, Lt. Monroe uninjured.

Tousley, a war veteran and elevated line extra man, says social and government agencies cannot find them a place, though they can pay 50 dollars a month.
American D‑Day veteran Martin J. Papula of Plymouth Pennsylvania was found in a small Normandy village working as a blacksmith. Army reports he lost memory after heavy combat, hid his identity, and now speaks mainly French fearing desertion charges.
Governor C A Robins urges Idaho residents to observe June 15 as the 38th anniversary of Father’s Day with proper religious worship and ceremonies. Father’s Day dates to 1910 when Mrs John Bruce Dodd of Spokane founded the observance.

New York defeated Chicago 2 to 3 with hits by Shea and Haynes. Cincinnati routed Brooklyn 58 to 4, while Chicago beat Boston 7 to 1. St Louis edged Kansas City 4 to 1. Pittsburgh topped New York 8 to 6.

He warns a veto would delay any tax cut to late 1948, and notes Democrats fear political cost next year for killing the Republican plan. Katherine McDougall 14 remains in unchanged condition after a June 3 motor accident near Mountain Home. Judge I B McDougall suffered a leg injury and son William ? broken arm. Amelia 15 and Katherine hospitalized then released to Boise St Luke hospital. The family was traveling to Moscow to pick up Isaac McDougall Jr, a university student.
