C A Bottolfsen of Arco denies being promised the state Republican chairmanship if he stays out of the gubernatorial contest. He says no one has offered him the job or consulted him, and he may still enter the race though cost is a factor. His name has been floated as a possible gubernatorial candidate.
The ninth annual Idaho department encampment of the Spanish American War Veterans and auxiliary opened in Sandpoint with a business session. Attendees included Thomas W. McDonough of Boise, state commander, and Julia M. Harper of Payette, auxiliary president.

President Roosevelt declines to commute the death sentence of Arthur Gooch to life imprisonment. Gooch, convicted of kidnapping law officers, faces execution on June 19.
