Fort Hall Bill Passes Congress Opening Reservation Lands
Congress approved the Fort Hall conference report last night and the bill, signed by the President today, opens about 418000 acres of the Fort Hall Reservation near Pocatello Idaho for settlement. It provides for payments to the Fort Hall Indians and sets terms for allotments, school funding, and mineral and agricultural lands. Senator George L Shoup led the drive and protected the Comanche Kiowa amendment, securing passage amid opposition.
