Dubois faction wins by pushing through a resolution as the battle over the former senator as a national delegate continues. Governor Hawley pleads for harmony while the convention remains in session.
In Coeur d Alene Idaho the Dubois and anti Dubois wings of the Idaho Democratic state convention failed to agree last night and reconvening was delayed until late morning as caucuses continued. Governor Hawley urged harmony noting the Taft Roosevelt split may aid Democratic prospects.
Coeur d'Alene June 4 special to the Tribune reports a Harmony delegates caucus narrows the Dubois opposition. Ada county leads on a plan to exclude Dubois from the national delegation and back Champ Clark for president. Perky fights on as Clark caucus stalls. Committee selections include Bistline Berg Hendricks.
Sioux City Iowa June 4 Congress man B H Hubbard representing the Eleventh Iowa district died suddenly this morning Heart disease listed as the cause of death He had just campaigned for renomination at yesterday's Republican primary with early returns suggesting he had the nomination and was in his usual health the night before.
In Brussels on June 4 post election riots across Liege Antwerp and other cities grew violent. The Socialist committee vowed a general strike while rioters clashed with police and civil guards killing and wounding dozens including children in Liege and Verviers.
In Verviers Belgium on June 4 a mob attacked genderames with missiles. Police or guards opened fire after rioters refused to disperse. Thirty members of the mob were killed or wounded while seven genderames were injured. Many arrests followed.
In Mons Belgium on June 4 two thousand miners protested against the upkeep of the current government.
Washington June 4 A vigorous attack began before the interstate commerce commission on existing class and commodity freight rates between New England and the North Atlantic coast and destinations in Colorado and Utah. Shippers claim current rates harm eastern interests by hindering access to western markets and seek rate adjustments.
Freight tariffs have been prepared and placed with printers to reduce rates on carload shipments from St. Paul and eastern points to Spokane Washington and Montana. Railway officials estimate the changes will cut annual revenues by about one million dollars for routes between St. Paul and the Pacific coast. The new rates take effect June 15.

Maurice Burke, 32, a cattle buyer from Idaho and former Salt Lake resident, died at the Cullen hotel in Salt Lake City after ingesting carbolic acid. A note to his brother blamed personal failure, with a portion defending a woman he said helped him. He had tried to cash checks and left two letters to be mailed unopened. Burke was educated at Salt Lake High School, starred in football, and was the son of William Burke, a wealthy cattleman.
Maurice Burke, famed in the Pocatello area, along with brothers Jack and Frank W. Burke, were talked about during visits in town. Maurice traveled from Portland to Salt Lake via Gate City connection, appearing in good health and high spirits. Jack Burke, in the city on business, left on the westbound No. 5, unaware of any trouble. Frank W. Burke, also in cattle, recently passed through en route to Denver.
Washington reports Senator George S Dixon of Nevada is critically ill in a Washington hospital with meningitis following surgery for catarrhal obstruction. Spinal meningitis developed after the operation and doctors say he may not survive the day.

In Cincinnati on June 4 five people were killed by deadly gas fumes in a grain well at Jacob Sachs dairy in Fairmount. Fireman Henry Esterman, who entered to recover bodies, was also overcome and left in serious condition. Victims named: Mrs Anna Espellage, Mrs William Koester, Jacob Sachs, Joseph Neihoff, Robert Atkins. The well pit stored wet malt for cattle feed and fermentation produced the gas.
