Veteran turfman predicts wave of gambling if racing ends

Haggin of New York argues against Governor Hughes and warns that ending horse racing would extinguish the thoroughbred, devastate breeding farms in Kentucky and elsewhere, drive gamblers to hidden venues, and harm national horse stock as Japan adapts racing to supply cavalry needs. He cites high-profile sales, asserts no racing fund exists, and emphasizes racing as a major industry and cultural force.
