The nation marks Liberty Loan Sunday as pastors nationwide are urged to preach and pray for the new loan issue. Church services will begin a week of intensive advertising urging support for the financial effort.
Joel L. Priest, chairman of the Liberty loan publicity committee, praises Idaho newspapers for wide publicity and asks bankers to cooperate by reporting subscriptions. He argues bonds are not donations but investments that retain value and foster a saving spirit during wartime. Priest travels from Montpelier to Boise via Pocatello.
Udine Italy June 2. Austrian prisoners captured by Italians report thousands of Serbians hanged after three weeks of fierce resistance to Austro German Bulgarian rule. Massacres of women and children cited as atrocities by Bulgarians provoked harsh retaliation and widespread insurrectionary movements across Serbia.
Local Elks and delegates from various towns plan a trip to Salt Lake City next Tuesday. A ball team will accompany the group, with about 150 travelers. Round trip fare is $5.15 and special train service will be provided. Notify Secretary Alva Norman of intent to attend.
Two German internees at Ellis Island swam to the mainland after leaping into the water. One man, William Schulz a young sailor, was recaptured.

Amoy reports indicate the provinces of Sheen Si Shen Che Kiang and Shan Tung have seceded. The secessions are said to be not due to the prevailing opinion, though details remain sparse and unverified.
Chicago June 2 indictments charge twenty individuals and firms with attempting to fix the Chicago egg market. Fourteen persons alleged to have conspired to foment a rebellion in India are also indicted, including former German Consul Reiswitz of Chicago.

Konovatoff, who yesterday left the post of commerce and trade minister, is quoted by the officials news agency as saying the government needs to yield to a homogeneous Socialist administration to reform government in Petrograd on June 2.

The French submarine Circe torpedoed and sunk a large enemy submarine as it emerged from Cattaro, escorted by a torpedo boat, then returned undamaged to its base despite air attacks.
