Colorado murder suspect Jake H. Fleagle is being traced by police in connection with the shooting death of Philip Rumbold, a wealthy Tonawanda real estate operator. Officials describe Fleagle as wanted on a murder charge in Colorado.
Idaho voters head to the August 5 primary to nominate county officers and legislators with delegates chosen for county and state conventions. The 1929 party pledge law spurs debate over participation and ballot integrity. Republicans meet at Idaho Falls with 229 delegates while Democrats gather at St. Anthony with 134 delegates.
Bob Black and Lou Reichers, endurance flyers, crossed 215 hours in the air at 5:30 a.m. Roosevelt Field New York. They made the first night refueling contact with a flashlight on the gasoline hose. Reichers spoke with his mother by radio for 15 minutes. They are due to pass the halfway point tonight on their 554 hour record attempt.
King George signed the instrument of ratification of the London naval treaty, now ratified by Great Britain and the United States. Philip Snowden, chancellor of the exchequer, announced the move to the House of Commons as cheers rang out. Ratifications will be deposited with the dominions India and the United States and Japan when all three parties to part three of the treaty can bring it into force under article 24.

Lou Gehrig drives a bases loaded homer in the seventh to put New York up 14 to 9 over Boston. The homer leaves Gehrig three behind Babe Ruth as the Yankees slugged 14 runs while Eddie Durham was the Red Sox victim.
Columbus Ohio July 31 Repeal of national prohibition is the dominant issue among Ohio Democrats in the senatorial primary contest closing August 12. James M Cox urged repeal. candidates Bulkley and Meyers promote it. Other Democrats stress farm relief and economic reform while some oppose repeal or refrain on the issue. Charles V. Truax also runs.
Briefs filed with the Public Utilities Commission allege two grounds against E. B. Brownfield seeking a permit to operate between Twin Falls and Pocatello. They claim two existing lines handle all demand and that Brownfield has operated routes without a permit.
West Orange New Jersey July 31 There may be a Mrs Thomas A Edison scholarship contest next year to pick Americas brightest girl. High school girls helped entertain the 49 contestants for the Thomas A Edison scholarship and suggested offering a similar prize to girls. Charles Edison, the inventor's son, supported the idea and said he would present it to Mrs Edison.
Rome July 31 Araldo di Crol lalanza minister of public works told Premier Mussolini that first aid in quake regions is being demobilized in phases. Remaining aid is limited to certain towns and population groups as tenting and rationing services are scaled back with local resources improving.
Bailey & Brothers Banking Company, Missouri’s second oldest bank, closed in Weston citing frozen loans. Established in 1865, the institution ceased operations today, with officers noting liquidity strain as the cause.
Steven J. Beck, famed New Orleans desperado, who in 1928 led a Angola breakout that sparked a fatal gun battle, escaped while painting at the prison. Posse and bloodhounds hunt him after his third escape. he previously faced 4 to 14 years for 1928 bank robbery and murder charges.
The Po catello General Hospital board at a special meeting this July 31 1930 resolves that Miss E P Sahol remain superintendent while a new superintendent of nurses is named. Returning all nurses from July 25 and guaranteeing diplomas upon course completion. No discrimination against graduates who showed sympathy. Continued on page five.
American gunboat Palos engaged near Changsha as Chinese Reds fired from riverbanks and ruins. Five sailors wounded as Palos returned fire with three inch guns and armor plating protected crew. Palos withdrew to Standard Oil installation after the hour long battle amid reports of wider communist advances.
Police stopped Kansas City suspects John Beatty and John Rusko after a fled pursuit of a stolen car bearing license 91199. Beatty was shot and hospitalized with a broken thigh while Rusko was held on an open charge. The wreck occurred when the car crashed and overturned. officers recovered the suspects and Beatty tried to escape but was shot. Both gave no statements.
In Winona Lake Indiana fire department art lovers thwart a plot to clothe the Venus de Milo statue with poison ivy. Mrs Mary Schell Starr of Chicago urged covering the statue which has stood for 20 years. Firemen watered away the ivy and police Chief Edington backed the move saying if Billy Sunday approves it is okay.
Utah skies remain unsettled tonight with cool showers and thunder mainly in the far south. Temperature changes are minimal as the system lingers, bringing scattered storms to the region.
