Flood waters undermined the roadbed 61 miles east of Las Vegas Nevada causing four cars of the Los Angeles Limited No 37 to derail. Three or four passengers were shaken up with two hospitalized in Las Vegas. The westbound train with twelve cars was moving slowly when two pullmans and a diner capsized while a lounge car derailed but stayed upright. The engine and remaining cars cleared the area.

The body of 21 year old Joel L. Owen was found in Pine View lake after 17 days in the water. He was born February 15 1924 in Ogden and served in the navy from 1941 to 1943 including seven major engagements in the Pacific. He was discharged honorably and later worked at the Ogden Arsenal and on the Southern Pacific railroad. Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday afternoon with burial in Ogden City Cemetery.
