Berlin authorities report Russia must explain 24 hour mobilization plans and possible anti Austria Hungary intent. Germany recalls officers and orders mobilization steps while Russia and France prepare. UK leaders discuss Ireland home rule amid crisis.
A Rome dispatch reports the Austria Hungarian army invading Servia totals 500000 troops. 150000 operate from Semlin opposite Belgrade, 100000 from Svornike on the Drina, 150000 from Sarajevo, and 100000 from Milovanovaz on the Danube in eastern Servia.
Bulletin reports Austrians repulsed crossing the Danube near Belgrade and Servians claim a western defense at Losnitza. Foreign pupils are ordered to leave German schools, English students depart, and towns intensify as schools may be converted to military hospitals.
July 30 in St. Petersburg reports Russia remains fixed to support Servia with partial mobilization already ordered. Emperor Nicholas may lead forces as generalissimo, sparking public enthusiasm. Parties set aside differences, and calls for terms after Belgrade’s occupation are considered unlikely.
