President Truman plans to request price controls and selective rationing powers from Congress as the 80th Congress returns. Officials indicate meat as a priority item and a continued push for compulsory allocation powers for essential materials like steel if needed.
Rudolph C. De Packh, 39, was sentenced to six years in a federal penitentiary for robbing the First National Bank at Grace Idaho. Judge Chase A. Clark noted leniency due to his Marines service and rehabilitation prospects. The bank's loss was about 3800 dollars.

Two Sisters of St. Joseph from Cul de Sac Idaho spoke in Pocatello about the flood at St. Joseph's Children's Home. They cited seven foot flood depths from Mission Creek on April 19 and more than 5000 dollars in damages to equipment plumbing coal and food. The home cared for 92 children and remained healthy despite heat loss. The sisters are guests at St. Anthony Mercy hospital during their visit.
A U N committee report failed to set limits on global armed forces after a 9 to 2 vote. The majority, including the United States, Britain, France and others, backed talks only if Russia approves a U N police force and related peace treaties. Russia and Soviet Ukraine opposed the measure amid charges that Britain sought to derail arms talks.

A smoke less powder dryer house at Hercules Powder Co. Kenil New Jersey was demolished by an explosion Monday. The blast was heard over a 20 mile area with no casualties. About 2000 pounds of powder were under drying at the time. Cause of the blast was not determined.
Four year old Stephen Hawks of Seattle remained in critical condition at Grangeville General hospital after an auto crash 35 miles south. His father E E Hawks 52 was killed. Brother Sterling 9 was treated and released. Dolly Hawks and three other sons rode in two following vehicles. The truck failed to negotiate a curve on the highway while en route to Seattle from Salmon River mining property?
Go North two C-47s left Pocatello Army Air Base at 9 a m Monday carrying 40 officers and men of the 15th bomb squadron for training with the 92nd bomb group at Spokane Washington. A reserve group of eight left Sunday by car for Spokane for a 15 day training period and will return to Pocatello by air August 9.
Washington officials said younger men would not wait long for the draft even if older 23 to 25 year olds are taken first. The Senate Armed Services Committee scheduled a Tuesday meeting at noon MST with Selective Service Director Maj. Gen. Lewis B. Hershey to discuss age and related questions.
The navy announced successful tests at White Sands New Mexico of telemetering on its Aerobee rocket. The instrumented system sent science data from the rocket that climbed about 72 miles above the earth using tiny radio stations that automatically return information to ground stations.
Friends of Mr and Mrs Wor Dell Moss formerly of Pocatello now of Rupert report the death of their 17 months old son Stephen Sunday at 3 PM from meningitis and bronchial pneumonia. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 PM at the Rexbury First Ward L D S church. Survivors include the parents and two brothers Kent and Bobby.

A bright silvery object seen northwest of Las Cruces on Saturday lingered for about three hours. Described as balloon or parachute with a dangling item, the luminous craft appeared stationary at times at a very high altitude.

Ruth Littleford, a 20 month old polio patient at St. Anthony Mercy hospital, is reported by attendants as fairly good. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy R Littleford of RFD 2 north, with both legs partially paralyzed and one arm affected. She is among four polio victims under treatment at the hospital since the year began.
Senator Robertson of Wyoming urged Congress to adjourn until November 8 at a Republican policy committee meeting. He said adjournment could occur immediately after hearing the president if his Tuesday message lacks sufficient justification for a special session.
