Washington reports the first air mail pilots strike ends after a conference between Second Assistant Postmaster Praeger and a pilot representative. Six reinstated for refusing to fly, while two discharges remain unresolved. Private T. H. Anglin goes to Washington to attend hearings with Praeger. The strike arose over safety concerns during fog and wage changes now set with new pilots at 2000 dollars and 10 percent layover raises.
Coblenz reports say marriages between American soldiers and German girls occurred in the occupied area but no charges have been filed. Chaplains and officers misinterpreted rules on fraternization. A special order corrected the belief that marriages were allowed before ratification. Even after ratification, army orders will prohibit such marriages.
Washington on July 26 reports that mail plane pilots will confer with Assistant Postmaster General Praeger today to press for reinstatement of two discharged pilots who refused to fly in fog. The strike, in effect for twelve hours, led to three of six scheduled flights being missed yesterday.
New York reports air mail service between New York and Chicago resumed today after a 20 pilot strike at Belmont Park. The Chicago mail plane to Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, was scheduled to depart at 5 a.m. but left at 8:25 a.m. due to mail not arriving on the field on time.
Milwaukee on July 26 reports a basement fire causing the suffocation of widow Mrs. Anna Gump and her four children. Two other children were rescued. The blaze began in the basement from an unknown cause.
Paris reports the Bulgarian peace delegation arrived this morning and was escorted by automobile convoys to the Chateau Madrid at Neuilly. The event marks a key moment in ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Helsingfors reports that on Friday July 25 the Finnish diet elected Professor K J Stahlberg as president of the republic.
Washington July 26 President Wilson wrote to Senator Lodge chair of the foreign relations committee regarding a senate resolution requesting all documents used by American delegates at the peace conference. White House said the letter was not a refusal and Taft letters are believed not intended for publication. Advisors warned against senators’ public interpretations of the president’s remarks on the peace treaty and league covenant while planning to discuss the treaty with Democratic senators. The president plans speeches en route to San Francisco on August 15 to review the Pacific fleet, with an initial address likely in the Midwest. Shantung and reservations remain top topics as Congress adjourns until Monday and Lodge meets Secretary Lansing amid talks on ratification reservations and the Colombian treaty.
Washington July 26 Colombia has agreed to senate amendments to the treaty with the United States by which suggestions of regret for the partition of Panama were eliminated. Continued on Page Two.
Governor Cox called for sweeping state wide probe into food prices urging immediate grand jury investigations in some cases. He warned current high prices threaten a crisis and could worsen unrest without drastic action. The request was sent to Attorney General John G Price in Columbus on July 26.

Senator Phelan announced to the state department that a Japanese liner recently brought 150 picture brides to California for husbands who had never met them. He also cited arrivals of brides in Seattle, arguing the influx undermines the gentlemen's agreement and weakens the immigration pact.
Washington July 26 The state department announced renewed efforts to curb the smuggling of arms into Mexico. A July 12 proclamation by President Wilson transferred control of munitions shipments to the state department, though no new policy is planned. The law targets shipments under 1912 and 1917 acts, with enforcement promised, as past shipments to Carranza’s government continued.
New York July 26 A housing survey for the state reconstruction commission shows one bath tub in 43 tenement houses on East Thirty third Street serving 1700 residents. The bath is owned by a saloonkeeper for his family use, while but a few of the 481 families have seen it. The nearest bathing option is a stationary washtub with a movable partition. The block has 1573 rooms for 1703 people, including 233 children under five. 29 boarders occupy 462 tenanted apartments with no access to the tub.
New York July 26 Mrs William Hammond of Gorman Texas mother of eleven children arrived at St Marys hospital in Hoboken to be by the bedside of her critically ill soldier son Ruel R Hammond 22. She mortgaged two horses and a cow to raise the fare and pays ten per cent on the loan which Ruel will help pay off when he recovers. Nurses and friends at the hospital started a fund to support the family amid hardship from the high cost of living as she brought home made Texas bread to last her journey back to German.
Washington reports the house ways and means committee recommends repealing the Canadian reciprocity act of 1911. Democrats and Republicans split on timing, urging deferment for revenue replacement. Also urged repeal of the 10 percent soft drink tax and adjustments to war tax on fruit juices.
Washington reports Republicans in the House agree with Senate leaders to a five week recess from August 2 to September 8. Senators largely back the plan as lawmakers aim to trim the calendar while continuing hearings on tariff railroad and marine issues and war department investigations.
Six sailors died when a boiler exploded aboard the destroyer tender Melville, part of the Pacific fleet.
