In New York on July 24 a 63 year old man Antonio Giordano and his 61 year old wife Theresa killed each other with a knife axe and revolver by candlelight in a crowded east side tenement. They fought for about thirty minutes as two daughters slept nearby and heard the struggle.
San Diego California July 24 AP plans for another attempt to break the world's endurance flying record and to set several speed records are being made by Captain L H Smith and Lieutenant John B Rich ter Rockwell field who last month were forced down by fog while near success. The pair practice refueling in air with Lieutenants Virgil Hines and Frank Seifert and expect to reach the mark in a flight during the full moon period in August.
Reports from I-Chang Hupeh province describe American steamer Alice Dollar and British vessel under the Monocacy escort heavily fired on near Chung-King on the Yangtze. The Monocacy returned fire causing damage and a Canton dispatch cites a similar incident on July 22 with the Pampanga firing on west river patrol at Dosing, requiring a Chinese apology.
In Port Angeles Washington on July 24 Carlyle Graham 16 was saved after falling from a cliff to rocks below breaking his leg in two places. Twelve towing ropes tied to cars were lowered down the five foot cliff and Graham’s companions pulled him up to the cove and then summoned aid.
Mrs. Bessie Bush a 38 year old woman was discharged after arraignment on a murder charge in municipal court Judge Yeateman ruled she was justified in killing her husband William Edward Bush. She testified he threatened to kill her and their step child over the child attending Sunday school.
Salt Lake City reports the 76th anniversary of the first pioneers reaching the Salt Lake Valley. A statewide holiday in Utah will feature a parade with original wagons and gear. Only one survivor remains from the 145 who joined the expedition, Lorenzo Young of Shelley Idaho.
Spokane announces Dr. E A Bryan who recently retired as Idaho state commissioner of education and former president of Washington state college will return as research professor of economics and history starting September.
The American Mining congress asks a court hearing on Pittman act silver purchases, stating $5,000,000 in proceeds retainment by the treasury should go to silver producers. J F Callbreath says the congress seeks full disclosure in a lawful forum.
A Hindu and Muslim clash in Ajmere British India on July 24 left five dead and several injured before troops restored order. Rioters attacked a Hindu procession and the Balaji Temple, damaging flags and drums, while police were assaulted.
In Ellenville New York July 24 an inmate Phillip Sasan a Porto Rican Negro leader of the riot died from a fractured skull after a clash in the Napanoch home for mental delinquents. One guard was dying and seven other guards were seriously injured in the riot during supper hour last night.
Paris July 24 AP The French cabinet unanimously approved Premier Poincare's stance on Britain's reply to Germany's reparation note. The meeting suggested the premier's report was negative on key British proposals while affirming France's tough position on Ruhr occupation and reparations as legally moral and economically sound.
Premier Poincare and premier Theunis are in agreement on fundamental British memorandum questions and on replying to Germany's reparations proposals. Berlin talks will continue on details and a joint French Belgian meeting may precede final replies in separate notes to Britain.
Philippine lawmakers press President Harding to order Governor General Leonard Wood recalled at once amid cabinet resignations and political strife. Attended by all parties, the recall demand follows Wood's reinstatement of Hay Conley, triggering Laurel’s resignation and ongoing tensions. Wood is currently in Samar for health reasons.
AP reports a special air mail flight departed from Chicago at 9:20 a.m. aboard Cheyenne to deliver dispatches to President Harding from the White House. The operation aimed to reach the capital by July.

Six bandits leaped from a large automobile and attacked Standard Sterling and Commerce bank messengers returning from the clearing house with bags of money. James W. Harris of Sterling bank fired on the bandits and was shot. W. S. Dick, another bank messenger, was wounded. Both men are in critical condition. The bandits escaped.

The Lausanne peace treaty ends twelve years of conflict with Turkey regaining Thrace and joining the League of Nations. Constantinople comes under Turkish control as foreign troops withdraw. The accord reshapes boundaries, relocates populations, and affects Armenian refugees, Mesopotamia, Palestine, and Syria, while Turkey gains reconstruction time and a new international role. Jugo Slavia refuses to sign.
The first phase of an airliner pilots strike began at the Corydon airdrome as a British passenger flight delayed three hours after the pilot demanded higher pay. With the chief official absent, authorities conceded to the demonstrators and the engine was started after a delay.
