The Senate passes the reciprocity trade pact by a 53 to 27 margin. Taft expresses pleasure as amendments are rejected. Twenty four Republicans oppose the plan while twenty one support it, and thirty three Democrats vote yes. The bill moves toward presidential signing on Monday.
The Canadian reciprocity bill passes the Senate 53 to 27 without amendments after earlier defeats. It moves to the president for signature as the version already passed by the House becomes law.
The reciprocity bill passed the Senate at 1 36 p m after a lively session with 25 amendments. The House adjourned to next Wednesday, and News reached the White House where President Taft welcomed the breakthrough before his Beverly weekend trip. Party lines blurred as 24 Republicans opposed the bill and 21 supported it, with 3 Democrats against and 32 in favor.
The Senate Lorimer committee questioned Edward Hines about his role in the bid to influence the spring Senate vote on Lorimer. Hines testified he spent a month in Washington meeting senators and writing to friends to relay the facts to their senators. The panel met for about an hour.

A signed statement from cousin Paul Beattie claims a shotgun was bought for the act. Police suspect the husband and will hold Paul Beattie as a witness. The coroner's jury verdict held Beattie responsible for his wife's death.
