Emperor Haile Selassie denounces Italy as warlike and vows defense to the last man in a parliament address. Italian protests in Rome and British hopes for league diplomacy follow. Desertion from Italian service reported as tensions rise.
Judge C F Koelsch refused a writ of mandate forcing Ada County to grant a $1,000 veteran tax exemption for 1935. The 1935 act was ruled not to take effect until next year due to prior assessments. The case, filed by veteran Jesse J McQueen, aimed to resolve conflicting opinions on retroactivity and lien timing.
Donald S. Taggart, 35, a ditch rider from Aberdeen Idaho, died from a basal skull fracture after being thrown against a pole by a frightened horse near Aberdeen. He died at American Falls hospital and funeral services will be held tomorrow. body to be taken to Ogden for burial. He is survived by five sisters and four brothers, including Mrs. Smith Hayes of Ogden and W. J. Taggart of Logan, Utah. He was born in Richfield Utah.

San Francisco July 20 An over the pole air route between the United States and Russia is being explored as a shortcut to Europe and Asia. Soviet fliers are ready in Moscow for a takeoff to Oakland with Wiley Post and his wife to fly from Los Angeles toward Siberia and likely Moscow. Weather is critical and the July 25 target remains tentative.
Five Wallace children were playing near the Scugog river when three drowned. The mother was arrested on a temporary vacancy charge after police found all bodies.
