Pershing reports action and success as U S forces suffer casualties in July. Army casualties total 93 with 73 killed in action 5 died of wounds disease and accident 9 missing 6 wounded. Marine casualties total 54 with 27 killed in action 16 died of wounds and 11 missing or wounded.
Allied lines hold with nightfall on July 18 as German offensive near Rheims loses momentum. After eighty hours of assault, gains are smaller than any prior attack, and American units in the battle play a growing role in open warfare alongside French forces.
