Shooting of Polish Guard Strains Polish Danzig Ties

A Polish border guard was fatally shot near the Danzig frontier. Danzig offered regrets as Warsaw forecasts Polish indemnity terms. A deposition from the widow claims a Danzig official and two SA men crossed into Poland and shot the guard, then fled. The incident follows a Warsaw official’s 14 month Danzig sentence and arrest of a Polish officer.

Junior Group To Honor Tony Robello

Pocatello's Junior Chamber of Commerce will honor Tony Robello, manager of the Pocatello Cardinal team, in a parade and program before tonight's game against the Twin Falls Cowboys. The event begins 7:30 PM from the senior high school, proceeds through downtown, and ends at Pioneer League Park where a program at 8:15 PM features the mascot Home Run and gifts to Robello and his wife.

High Wind Brings Forecast of Cooler Weather

A weather bureau forecaster known as W. P. alleges he was attacked by Old Man Weather and a 30 mile per hour wind that ruined his forecast. Despite a cooler tonight and Friday, the high yesterday reached 94 with a 60 degree low this morning. The wind caused tree damage, knocked out power to parts of town for about 40 minutes, and toppled a modern shoe store awning in the business district.

Explorations Seek Titanosaurus Bones in Manti National Forest

Smithsonian paleontologist Dr. C. L. Gazin leads summer digs in the North Horn area of Manti National Forest seeking remains of a 20 ton titanosaur from about 80 million years ago. C. N. Woods says past two seasons yielded substantial skeletal material and aims to reconstruct 28 full skeletons.

Ogden Crash Kills One Near Utah Hot Springs

A stop sign violation near Utah hot springs caused a collision that killed Dagmer Petersen 61 of Logan and injured four others. The Petersen car returning from a Saltair family reunion collided with a six passenger New Jersey youths touring car. Dagmer Petersen died at Dee hospital.

Grader Worker Dies in Camas Refuse Site Accident

Jensen Price, 36, of Menan Idaho, was crushed to death in a road grader on a federal bird refuge project at Camas. Refuse Supervisor Howard Sargent said he reached into the machine to remove weeds. his hand was caught and he died two hours later. Authorities called the death obviously unavoidable.

Farmer Finds Gold Cache In Michigan Farm

A farmer and his son unearthed more gold coins on a farm near Bronson Michigan sparking a potential legal fight. The Belote family turned $2,920 in coins over to the sheriff who banked the money as both owner and renter attorney prepare claims. Michigan law may award half to the finder and half to the county after advertising and lack of claimant proof.

In Idaho Falls chemists test six blends of potato alcohol with gasoline for motor fuel. Government officials say each formula could allow separation and drinking of the alcohol. Superintendent Marvin Laslett says adding wood alcohol is hoped to solve the issue.

Erie police chief reports a man entered headquarters to confess an unadmitted auto theft tied to a prior holdup sentence. The man claimed to have served time in a western penitentiary and said his Corsicana Texas theft charge haunted him. he was held for investigation.

Idaho Requires Advertising of Potatoes and Onions

Idaho growers must stamp potatoes and onions with vegetable advertising stamps proving a half cent per hundredweight tax payment. The Idaho advertising commission now handles the program, replacing the old fruit and vegetable commission. Stamps go on sale July 24 and clearance tickets for truck shipments must bear the stamp amount.

Leader Admits Drunkenness In New York Court

Fritz Kuhn leader of the German American band pleaded guilty in district court to drunkenness and profanity charges. He was fined five dollars for the profanity offense, with the drunkenness count placed on file by Judge Louis O. Rieutard. Kuhn's arrest followed a Sunday incident after Motor Patrolman Henry Plasse stopped the party and Kuhn swore at the officer.

The Rotary club hosted a noon meeting with Pocatello Cardinal baseball players and local officials. Indian Sun Dances Open At Sundown

Indian tribes from Fort Hall begin a three day sun dance at Bannock creek near Pocatello to aid the crippled and sick. Gibson and Fort Hall districts start Friday at Buffalo and Eagle lodges. Each 72 hour ceremony ends Tuesday evening July 25.

Autopsy Ordered in Death of Transient Barney

Coroner Arthur Hall ordered an autopsy on a transient believed to be Thomas Barney who died at General hospital after severe scalp wounds from a fall from a Union Pacific freight car. Suspects include Al Kilmer and R C Coble, with Kilmer linked to Barney and held for questioning along with Slaughter. A federal fingerprint report is awaited from the FBI.

Mad dog bites six in downtown Pittsburgh melee

A mad dog rampaged through downtown streets in Pittsburgh last night injuring six people before being captured by police. Sightseeing Lions convention delegates were among the pedestrians affected as the animal attacked near doorways and automobile running boards.

Lariats Save Trapped Boy After 12 Hour Cliff Hold

Douglas Wyoming July 20 A 17 year old Douglas high school athlete Leonard Morris was saved from a 150 foot cliff after spending the night clinging to a ledge. Two cowboys lowered 35 foot lariats and loops from above lifting Morris to safety at the top with help from his companions Donald Cook and C L Payne and two punchers Charles Chaflin and Art Sims.

7 000 000th Yard Poured at Grand Coulee Dam

Grand Coulee Washington reports the 7 000 000th cubic yard of concrete poured into the dam. The pour leaves 3 850 000 cubic yards remaining and the east abutment concrete sits 25 feet below the deck of the construction trestle which rose 180 feet above the dam level.

House orders sweeping probe of National Labor Relations Board

In Washington on July 20 the House approved a resolution to form a five member investigating committee to probe the Wagner Act's administration. Rep Smith led the measure with broad Republican support and many Democrats backing the inquiry aimed at whether a new board is needed and its impact on employers and labor. The roll call was 252 to 135.

License Revocation Stands: Idaho Board Powerless to Act

In Boise on July 20 the Idaho pardon board refused clemency in a drunken driving case. Attorney General J. W. Taylor said revocation of a license is mandatory and cannot be reversed by the board. The session followed the board granting but then rescinding a temporary license for L. L. Miller of Nampa and related action in Theodore Lehr’s case.
