Police in the free city of Danzig announced the arrest of 20 Marxist socialists believed linked to foreign powers. The prisoners allegedly stored explosives to blow bridges and face treason charges as probes into possible扩 links to Poland and Russia continue.
An unidentified transient around 50 fell from a freight car in the local railroad yards Monday afternoon. He remained alive at press time, described as quite low. He was found with scalp wounds and taken to the General hospital by Officer Knowles after being seen by Fred W. Pidcock. Detective McKinnon recovered a bloody shirt wrapped around a heavy chain in the car.
Addie Kelly of Pocatello sues Twin Falls dentist Dr. Cecil R. Fox for 25000 general damages 2380 wages 1000 medical care and 750 hospital care. She alleges the dentist fractured her lower left jaw while removing an infected wisdom tooth on December 8 1937.
Mayor Robert M. Terrell Myron Porges chamber president Paul Nash and secretary W C Carnes joined Aberdeen chamber of commerce luncheon guests.
A daughter was born Sunday at General hospital to Mr and Mrs Wallace Wilson of 454 South Main.
Radio from Capt. Hawkins to B H Haney reports the Bokuyo Maru sank about 1,200 miles east of Yokohama after fire erupted in its nitrate cargo. The Associated tanker saved 200 passengers and crew, leaving three dead as 100 survivors were rescued by the Florida Maru and taken to Japan. Most passengers were Orientals and Hindus returning from South America.
Attorney Murphy ordered a federal grand jury in Minneapolis to investigate the WPA strike after an FBI inquiry. Victor E. Anderson, U S district attorney at St Paul, was to convene the panel. FBI findings will be presented to the grand jury with indictments possible if warranted.
London reports Prime Minister Chamberlain hopes to announce a conclusion of a British French Russian alliance before the August 4 parliamentary recess. He cautioned that no agreement has yet been reached. Boise notes Idaho state banks and branches gained 1,092,650 in the quarter ending June 30, with total resources at 53,386,631 and deposits up.
In Colorado Springs a defending champion Van Savage from Salt Lake City held a 1-hole edge over Jack Kerns of Denver after nine holes in the first round of the trans Mississippi golf tournament.
Washington July 19. Eccles, chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, testifies the 2.8 billion dollar lending program needs a continuing public works program to move toward solving the basic problem. He endorses the idea as an excellent step and says higher consumption of national income is needed to lift the mood. Treasury Secretary Morgenthau also supports the program as a real advance toward aligning expenditures with receipts. Majority Leader Barkley plans an amendment to remove the permanent solving fund feature.
The Rotary club plans a luncheon tomorrow noon at the Bannock hotel honoring Tony Robello manager of Pocatello's Cardinals. Attendees include team members and guests such as Max Pasley and Bill Hall with July publicity details given by Paul Bryan.

Salt Lake City residents face a record heat warning as the weatherman reports that for 65 years the hottest stretch of summer runs from July 19 to August 6. Already the city has seen 103.1 degree readings and many readings over 100.

Dr. Edmund Heller aged 64 and long associated with the Fleishacker Zoo in San Francisco died last night after a heart ailment worsened by asthma. Physicians listed the cause of death as the heart attack.

Three Bannock Shoshone and Portneuf district dances begin with drums and sun rituals. The Bannock Creek sun dance starts near Pocatello at sunset Thursday, followed by Portneuf and Gibson district dances at Buffalo Lodge and Eagle Lodge. The events run three days, ending Tuesday July 25, with sunrise rites and waving up ceremonies to greet the sun.
Mrs Mary Jane Littlefield regional director of the Rocky Mountain region visited the Mink Creek camp this week to rate it under Girl Scouts standards She recommended the Pocatello camp for certification by the national headquarters camp advisory bureau It is among the few in the Rocky Mountain area meeting all health safety program and personnel requirements before her other visits in Rock Springs and Cheyenne and en route to Nampa
Superintendent E. P. Newby said the St. Anthony industrial school would impose stricter rules for future escapees after two youths, Don Gordon Paul 15 of Rexburg and Edward W. Rudolph 17 of Boise, were recaptured near the Snake River by guards after slipping away earlier that day.
Patrolman Nathan F. Griffith 52 of the Boise police died in a Boise hospital. Born April 13, 1887 in Appleton City Missouri, he came to Boise in 1922 and served ten years on the force. Survived by a sister Mrs Effie Varns in Appleton City. Body to be sent there.
Britt Hargraves Jr. remains at General Hospital where doctors report his condition improved while police hold a murder warrant connected to the fatal shooting of F. F. Bob Hunter.
In Washington July 19 AP, Stephen Early said Roosevelt may call a special session if Europe crisis emerges after adjournment. Early noted the president would push repeal of arms embargo to the people if needed, while Senate foes urged a countrywide campaign against neutrality policy. Senator Borah heatedly debated the issue with the president.
Dawn Blood Noel, 19, wife of a dance band leader, died of a self inflicted gunshot after an argument with husband Herbert Noel over his four hour absence from a nudist camp in Tunas canyon. Noel told police he discovered Dawn as she lay shot in their North Hollywood home. He said two men and a woman named Jeanette visited Dawn at the house during the party. The case is being investigated by Captain Dalton Patton, with Dawn identified as the daughter of Broadway actress Adele Blood.
William P of the weather bureau and his ally Old Man Weather dispute over forecasts. Yesterday W P predicted fair Wednesday with little temp change and it verified as a 95 degree high and 50 degree low. Today at 3 pm the mercury stood at 92 and a 95 degree high is again forecast with little temp change for Thursday.
Idaho Falls chamber of commerce protested to the U S civil aeronautics authority the proposed purchase of Western Air Express by United Air Lines. The letter warned the merger would harm Idaho Falls and create a monopoly that would impede a competitive aviation industry. It noted Western Air Express has served the community economically and satisfactorily for a long time.
San Francisco July 19 Aaron Sapiro testified in the Bridges deportation trial that in 1936 Bridges claimed he ran the communist party and that it controlled Pacific coast maritime unions. Sapiro, former Sailors Union of the Pacific legal rep, recalled Bridges urging failed re affiliation and boasting of influence in unions and a publicity setup to cripple opponents.
