Heavy cloud cover and high winds ignored rain chances as Pocatello endured its hottest night on record with a minimum of 76 degrees, surpassing the 75-degree mark set in July 1925. Officials note a continued heat wave with a 92 degree reading at 1:30 PM and a forecast of fair skies but cooler highs to come.

Collins also injured and jailed after treatment
Harve L. Hartman 50 was wounded seriously in a gun battle with three men who broke into the Byron post office and garages in Grafton and Shickley early today. The trio escaped.
Gandhi's arrival in Calcutta was uneventful as a mail train reached the city without him. Followers reportedly pulled him from the train at a suburban station, and he walked unrecognized to his host's home. He deplored arrests tied to a reported plot to kill him.
A car headed to Yellowstone park crashed north of Rexburg injuring three women. Doris Mae Dugger about 10 died from a broken neck and her mother Mrs. Theodore Dugger about 35 died from multiple injuries. Blanche Connelly 45, owner and driver, is hospitalized in critical condition with chest injuries and a fractured skull. An inquiry will follow by Coroner Vern Keller as Sheriff Bigler and state patrolman investigate.

Olson, acting governor, entered the executive office with two friends at 10 a m and guards guarded the corridors as he posted the proclamation canceling Langer's called session.
A barge carrying a herd of about 150 cattle sank in the Mississippi River. The thirsty cows drank water from the river and swam ashore rather than perish, revealing widespread thirst and a dramatic rescue scene in the northwest area.
Lupe Velez did not appear in Los Angeles court today for her divorce suit against Johnny Weissmuller. Her attorney called to say she was working on a motion picture and would likely attend tomorrow. Judge Robert Kenney warned he would put the case off the calendar if she again failed to appear.

Gas tax motor vehicle fees kilowatt tax beer and malt taxes are itemized with distribution to highway, counties, school fund and general fund.
William A. Elliott, longtime pastor of Ottawa First Baptist, argues that rain is governed by established natural laws not prayer. He stresses that modern knowledge explains weather patterns and that penitential prayers may be appropriate but cannot produce rain.
Portland officials promised a full probe of the waterfront shooting incident that endangered Senator Robert F. Wagner and others. Guards fired on an automobile not halting. Wagner was in the lead car and a bullet struck E. P. Marsh. Wagner stayed in Portland to aid settlement talks as labor’s policy committee weighed a general strike and longshoremen council members joined the scene.

Radical socialists aligned with Edouard Herriot launched a move to oust Andre Tardieu, while Tardieu’s supporters said he would stay while Herriot remains. Doumergue reportedly averted a full wreck by urging order.

Nancy Long 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Waller K Long and a former Pocatellan, died at Eagle Idaho on her birthday from a spinal disorder. Born July 10 1927 in Pocatello she is survived by her parents a brother and a half brother. Funeral plans not announced.
