German leaders welcome Washington's plan for economic rehabilitation, viewing it as a path to readmission and Europe’s recovery. They acknowledge harsh wartime sentiments but insist Germans must be rebuilt for the continent's well being, noting Gen. Lucius D. Clay supports moving Germany onto its feet.
About 4,500 Jewish refugees aboard a ship battled a 50-man British boarding party off Palestine near Haifa. A British officer reported two deaths, including a woman who died in childbirth, with three bodies found aboard. The boarding party used tear gas and gunfire as passengers attacked with smoke bombs and steam jets.
Deputy Sheriffs found Emily Kaka Buckskin dead with a bullet wound in the left chest at the Buckskin home on the Fort Hall Indian reservation. Presley Buckskin was found hiding nearby with bloodstained overalls. The gun’s location and powder burns indicate close-range firing.
The Associated Press reports a sizzling day across the Pacific Northwest as eastern Washington and most of Oregon faced high forest fire danger. Temperatures neared 100F with Walla Walla at 104, The Dalles at 102, Le Crosse 102, Baker 97, Yakima 96, Spokane 92, Olympia 90, Portland 89, Salem 89, Kelso 87, Seattle 84, and Bellingham 83.
Boise July year Members of the state land board will leave their capitol posts for a three day raft excursion down the Clearwater River in northern Idaho. The 40 mile journey will inspect state timber logging practices and fire control from July 27 to 31 sponsored by the Clearwater Timber Protective association. Board members include Gov. Cc. A. Robins Cy Price N P Nielsen Rob ert Airshie and Alton Jones with Ed Woozley serving as secretary.
Fire situation in the Boise national forest was reported back to normed today with the last of two major blazes under control. M A Coonrob, fire control over, said 10 men would today mop up a fire on Dollar creek fourteen northeast of here on the South fork of the Salmon river drainage area, while eight would remain on Gold fork where some hundred men were on duty yesterday.
Hollywood reports actress Susan Peters, 26, began a comeback in a drama with Alexander Knox after a hunting accident on January 1, 1945 left her paralyzed from the waist down. Peters performs in a wheelchair, a sight welcomed by many celebrities who sent telegrams and visited the studio.
Coroner C J Abrams reported that Fiorence Grimes, a 30 year old mother of two, died in shallow farm reservoir water near Spring Valley yesterday afternoon. Authorities believe a cramp caused her to struggle before sinking.

Boise The U S bureau of agricultural economics predicted a dry pea crop of 1 887 000 hundred pound bags ten percent under 1946 but the fourth largest produced in the state. A July 1 survey showed 148 000 acres yet to be harvested and overall crop development described as early and good with frost damage in eastern Idaho.
Van L. (Pete) Bendsil a 44 year old Yakima duster pilot was killed when his plane struck an electric feeder line while pulling up from dusting on the Marvin G. Punderburg ranch ten miles northwest of Selah. The craft crashed into a rock bank and exploded immediately.
The House votes 298 to 108 to override the president on the second 4.9 billion tax cut bill. Senate debate is open ended with no roll call yet as leaders foresee a tight fight possible to sustain the veto. Two Republican senators oppose the veto override and the final outcome hinges on a few votes.
R J Roubidoux, chief of police, warns that St Anthony hospital will not treat injured Indians in Pocatello and government orders allegedly deny payment. Fort Hall has no local hospital and General Hospital will not take cases. Police lack funds for care, leaving injured Indians unable to receive treatment.
Two inmates, Leo Bezemer age 65 serving life for first degree murder and Warren Smith from King county serving 20 years for robbery, escaped from the state prison farm near Walla Walla. Officers sought them after daily counts failed to show their presence.
About 620 persons were missing after the coastal steamer Ramdas capsized two huge waves and sank 12 miles south of Bombay. At noon there were about 100 survivors of the 721 aboard. Twenty bodies were recovered and survivors were taken to Bombay and nearby villages. The ship went down in five minutes. most aboard were Indians with three Europeans reported among passengers.
Rudolf Hess and six other high nazis transported secretly to Spandau prison near Berlin to serve life terms. They arrived after the Nuremberg trial where Hermann Goering and others were sentenced. Goering died before execution. Guards guarded the airfield and bus as four armored cars and four trucks transported them to Spandau, a jointly operated prison by four occupying powers.
Kenneth Vannest, 17, died after being trapped in a limestone cave near Pueblo. His body was found two days earlier wedged in a small opening, and his funeral was planned at the scene before sealing the cavern as a tomb. Byron Vannest asked for authorities to halt further body removal attempts.
