Emperor Haile Selassie urged Ethiopians to unite and fight Italy to defend independence. He said he would lead the troops into war and that dying free is superior to living under tyranny. He warned Italy seeks conquest and urged unity across faiths to resist invasion.
Thor Solberg, Norwegian-American flyer, and wireless operator Paul Oscanyan departed Floyd Bennett Field aiming for Bergen via Montreal. Fifty minutes after takeoff the tail-heavy Liev Erikson returned to the field saying it could not be controlled in flight.

Mayor R M Terrell announced from Boise that Pocatello fire insurance rates drop due to the water system. A head-on collision between a freight and a Northern Pacific local passenger train near Walla Walla Washington killed engineer Stanley Cowan and transient Fred Madsen and injured twelve others. The wreck occurred on a curve between Walla Walla and Pasco as the three car passenger train tailed toward Pasco.
