In Salt Lake City Secretary of State Marshall won a vote of faith from governors but the group withheld any specific approval of his European aid plan. The resolution stressed support for an American foreign policy and the UN framework, omitting Europe specifics until details are known.
Atty Gen Robert Airshie says he agrees with Boise Police Magistrate Edith Miller that the legislature and city council did not necessarily intend slot machines be kept out of sight of those under 20. A restaurant operator was cleared when a 16 year old sat near four machines enclosed by a fence. The law bans access by under 20s to coin operated amusements.
J R Eggert associate director of marketing for the institute told the joint congressional committee on the economic report that meat supplies could rise about 15 percent by autumn. He said moderately lower prices may follow if wage gains and demand do not surge further, noting current prices reflect higher income and seasonal low supplies. His remarks were submitted on the final day of hearings on price stabilization and the economy.
Delbert Barton, co-owner of the Washington hotel, must file by July 23 his initiatory brief in a suit in district court challenging the constitutionality of Weiser’s slot machine tax ordinance. A 32 year old Frank Ryan suffered a crushed leg when a steel girder struck him on a small platform in Detroit's financial district. Iron worker Alfred Finck pulled Ryan to safety and applied a tourniquet, keeping him conscious for 30 minutes before ambulance transport to St. Mary's Hospital where the leg was amputated. Ryan rests comfortably as doctors monitor his condition.
Marine Sgt. Carrlyn George Hendrickson, son of G. W. Hendrickson of Tetonia Idaho, was killed when struck by a navy fighter during a field carrier landing in Pensacola. The pilot also died. Surviving are his widow in Pensacola and his father.

The coastal steamship Ramdas sank 11 miles south of Bombay during a monsoon. Bombay Steam Navigation Co. executive C. A. Buch said nearly 700 people perished with only 15 to 20 saved. Survivors reported two huge waves capsizing the 400 ton vessel on its daily run to Rewas, a fishing village 13 miles south of Bombay.

The British admiralty released a Dover report detailing the Dunkirk evacuation of May 26 to June 4, 1940. Admiral Ramsay notes 176 British ships, 35 sunk and 42 damaged, aided by 700 small boats, rescuing 330000 British troops. French losses were heavy with 19 ships involved.

British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin said it is right that Europe claim American productive genius to aid postwar reconstruction. He told the Transport and General Workers Union that Americans contributed greatly to the war and should assist with Europe’s production policy, in a statement from Hastings.
