The Interstate Commerce Commission ordered revision of livestock freight rates in the west, mainly reductions. New mileage based rates apply to cattle calves hogs sheep and goats with minimum carload weights and terminal charges set for western trunk lines and southwestern territory.
Captains Alexander Magyar and George Endrés flew the monoplane Justice for Hungary from Harbor Grace to near Budapest, covering 3,239 miles in 26 hours 22 minutes. They landed near Bicske after fuel ran low, injuring a wing on landing but escaping harm. Emil Szalay funded the flight and Premier Count Bethlen thanked him.
The U S Forest Service ordered closure of the St Joe Coeur d Alene Lolo and Cabinet forests in Idaho and Montana except on permit. Entry requires a regulation ax, a shovel and a water pail. In Valley county near Cascade two large fires were raging with crews fighting on Second Fork of Squaw creek and Piersall creek.
Mrs Enda Hoult of 543 South Fourth became the first woman to solo from Pocatello airport on July 15 in a C3 Aeronca with instructor S H Christensen. The flight ended with a perfect three point landing after about 3 12 hours of instruction, according to friends.

The state board of education approved shortening high school terms in six Utah counties to cope with reduced revenues. In Rosebud Montana a fire destroyed a store pool hall post office community hall and three homes, leaving little of a business district.
Geo Math ews, manager of the local baseball team, says the team remains in contention for the sectional championship despite a recent public claim that the Soda Springs vs Lava Hot Springs game next Sunday will not decide the title. Lava has one loss in ten. Soda’s average is lower.

H C Wood 57 general range superintendent of Wood Livestock Co Spencer Idaho was hospitalized in Idaho Falls with a bullet wound to the left jaw and neck. Police awaited his recovery before questioning. Wood’s wife and mother in law heard a shot from an adjoining room and found him on the floor with a pistol nearby.

Chief J M Wilson said 30 arrests were made and more sought as Black suspects allegedly faced violence over sentencing for a train confrontation involving white girls.
Two cars were reported stolen in Pocatello within 24 hours. Ford touring car owned by M. W. Fieldstead vanished from near Shoshone Bridger at 8 AM. Essex sedan of J. P. Clark reported stolen from his home in faded blue color. Police seek a green Chevrolet roadster stolen in Burley with license 63-226.
Washington July 17 Examiner later today recommended to the interstate commerce commission that it revise rates on onions from Oregon Short Line points in Idaho to Oklahoma and Texas. Idaho Utilities Commission complained onions rates were too high. The examiner found this true and suggested the commission order the revision but refuse reparations for overcharges on past shipments. The examiner urged rates on onions should not exceed those on potatoes from and to such points.
Northern Utah faces a fair sky with unsettled conditions in the south tonight and into Saturday. Temperatures show little change across the state with mild air and light winds expected.
Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon survived a near crash at Roosevelt Field as they announced a coastal hop to Harbor Grace N F then on to Moscow to break Wiley Post and Gatty’s world record. They will refuel at Harbor Grace and depart at midnight to reach Newfoundland by tomorrow noon. They dumped fuel to avoid disaster at Roosevelt Field to clear hangars and wires and lift their 8000 pound aircraft.
The agriculture department reports prospects point to another year of very low world prices. Domestic wheat remains cheap with 25 cent bids in the southwest as bumper crops are not expected. World supply should stay ample due to large stocks in North America, Argentina, and Australia, despite drought and modest yields.
Baseball standings show Detroit 90, Philadelphia 101 after late innings with rain delay affecting the New York game. Cleveland and New York split. Chicago and Washington game halted by weather. St Louis defeated Boston as others logged runs and rankings.
Senator Reed Smoot told the State Republican club at a Great Salt Lake outing that Germany will recover from its financial crisis with help from the United States and Great Britain. He praised Hoover’s war debt stance, saying it strengthens him with Europeans and Americans and signals Republican rehabilitation toward a 1932 victory. He expressed confidence Utah will reelect the Republican administration.
A Laval spokesman said the seven power conference may be postponed due to Franco German negotiations starting in London tomorrow.
