German Banks Open to Avert Economic Crisis

The reopening of banks after a two day holiday and curbing foreign currency purchases prompted the German government to believe a dangerous crisis was averted. Rioting communists and jobless spread across the Reich with casualties and arrests as police suppressed unrest. Finance Minister Dietrich and the government broadcaster announced measures to restore confidence in the economy.

Carload rise in Idaho perishable produce in June

Southern Idaho shipped 681 carloads of perishable produce in June, up from 589 in the same month last year, per the Pacific Fruit Express report to the public utilities commission. January to June totals for Utah and Idaho stand at 5,740 this year versus 14,461 last year’s first half.

Clemency plea for Albert Fall reaches White House

A telegram from New Mexico’s two senators and both state houses asks executive clemency for Albert B. Fall, who faces a year and a day prison term for taking a bribe linked to a naval oil reserve lease. The president will await Justice Department study before acting. Fall’s departure for the New Mexico penitentiary remains uncertain as his physician calls him very feeble.

Indian Agency invites bids on lease of irrigable lands

The Indian Agency at Fort Hall issues circulars inviting bids to be opened August 1 for leasing 426 tracts totaling about 18 530 acres. Of these 403 tracts are irrigable covering roughly 15 150 acres, mostly in 20 acre parcels with some larger tracts, plus 23 grazing tracts totaling about 3 380 acres.

Cool Nights Bring Sleep Relief in Idaho

The forecast says fair tonight and Friday with mild weekend weather. Temperatures reached 90 Wednesday, 82 at noon today, and a 59 low at 6 am. Meteorologist A R Teeple noted 88 at 2 pm with expectations of higher heat before a downward turn.

Pocatello Dentist Elected President of State Board

Dr. R J Cruse of Pocatello was elected president and Dr F S Heer of Boise serves as secretary during Idaho State Dental Examining Board meeting in Boise. Other members named include Drs E E Dutton Cowell and R B E Smedley. Cruse expected home Friday evening.

Planes Collide Over Brooks Field Killing Four On Duty

Four officers on duty at Brooks Field San Antonio were killed in a midair collision four miles south of the field. Major Charles V Hart flight surgeon and pilot Captain Carlos J Chamberlain Second Lieutenant K Austin Rogers and Cadet Endicott Longacre were aboard the two planes. The planes collided while flying at about 300 to 900 feet and crashed to the ground.

Flight log traces Atlantic airmail journey across Europe

The AP filed a ship log showing a flight leaving Roosevelt Field New York at 5:32 PM on July 13 and reaching Harbor Grace Newfoundland by 11:18 AM July 15. Radio contacts from the Stavangerfield Kennebec Maya reportings place the plane west of Ireland and near Vienna after a stopover in Budapest, with a final landing near Bicske.

Secretary of Agriculture Hyde announced in Salt Lake City that there is no national drought comparable to last year and it will not pose a serious problem. Bannock County 4 H Club Fair Set For September 19

Bannock County 4 H club announces its annual fair will be Saturday September 19 at Lava Hot Springs in conjunction with the East Bannock fair. Demonstration and judging contests are featured with girls fielding about 20 demonstration teams and as many judging teams while boys expect eight demonstration teams and 15 judging teams. Demonstration teams must score 80 or higher to compete. The top three girls exhibits will advance to the four and those chosen will go to the Eastern Idaho district fair in Blackfoot. County pie clubs enter for first time with about 90 members. in dairy division last year 41 boys exhibited 46 head of stock.

Brighton man hit by falling rock from cliff

In Brighton England James Saltwell was struck on the head by an eight pound rock that fell about 100 feet as he walked beneath a cliff. He suffered a head injury but was told he had a thick skull and sent home after examination.

Weary fire crews had Idaho and Montana fires virtually conquered today. If winds stay low, 500 men will be released from a force of 1300 on the front. Clearwater fires in Idaho should stay within burned areas. Rock Creek and Bitterroot blazes in Montana are under control. electrical storms did not start new fires.

Magyar Endres land trans Atlantic romance in Hungary

Captain Alexander Magyar and Captain George Endres completed a 3200 mile flight in the monoplane Justice for Hungary, forcing a landing near Budapest after exhausting fuel. They emerged unharmed to cheers as the plane circled the city and landed at the airport.

Church Honors Soldier Group in Salt Lake City

In Salt Lake City on July 16 a ceremony at the Mormon Battalion monument marked the 85th anniversary of the unit's enlistment at Council Bluffs Iowa. Colonel Hamilton Gardner praised the battalion for shaping Utah's military leadership while descendants sang with John D. Bowers and four daughters. Reverend leaders led prayer and the benediction, with George Albert Smith directing the program. The battalion moved from Council Bluffs to San Diego after enlistment.
