An explosion of fire damp in No. 6 mine at Cumberland last night killed twelve Chinese workers and injured eight others among fifty Chinese and four white employees. The mine, described as gaseous, had been operated mainly by Menaolians with a few white overseers since the strike, and the rescue party faced deadly black damp.
