Allies Confer in London Over Dawes Report

London July 15 AP Preparations were nearly complete for an inter allied conference at the foreign office to discuss implementing the Dawes report on reparations. More than 150 delegates from Great Britain France Italy Belgium and Japan gather as Premier Macdonald opens the session with Kellogg and Colonel Logan as U S representations. Berlin July 15 a bill for the establishment of the new gold note bank has been completed and submitted to the reparations commission. The bank will operate on lines similar to the Reichsbank with a reichamark note at a face value of ten marks and upward.

Smith Seeks Private Life After Democratic Convention

Albany July 15 Governor Smith told cheering crowds at Welcome home demonstrations that his two ambitions are to find a high private position in the Democratic party and to return to New York to resume his truck business and save for a rainy day. He addressed suggestions of a presidential or third term bid as he spoke after returning from the Democratic national convention in New York. A street parade with music and fireworks welcomed him as more than 4 000 people marched.

Hagerman Man Faces Murder Over Gun Trap

Twin Falls Idaho July 15 Roy Callahan 21 was instantly killed when a shotgun set near a cherry orchard by owner F Woods at Hagerman fired as he crawled over a fence. Woods is jailed in Gooding county awaiting murder charges after a coroner inquest.

Telegraph workers win partial wage increases

The US wage board granted 1921 telegraph service employees across six roads a total raise of 1,921 workers and $101,064 yearly, effective tomorrow. Agents at small non-telegraph stations and one-road telegraph workers did not receive raises. Roads granted increases include Missouri Kansas and Texas one cent and Oregon Short Line two cents. The board ordered targets to correct inequalities and set road rules for Oregon Washington Railroad and Navigation.

New Constrivance to Find Radium

Chicago July 15 AP A new electrotype instrument by Professor W F G Swann of the University of Chicago measures radium in the air. It detects ionization from a single helium atom and gives readings in under a second. Swann notes only about 250 grams of radium over the earth's surface.

Major Seismic Activity Reported at Tashkent Observatory

Seismic events of great intensity recorded at the seismographical observatory in Tashkent Russian Turkestan over four days. Observers believe the Parmirs near the Indian border are the center. Tremors toppled instruments and unsettled homes as walls shook and furniture moved.

New York July 15 AP. Judge George W. Olvany elected to lead Tammany Hall succeeding the steering committee after the death of Charles F. Murphy in April. Olvany, born on the East Side near Governor Smith’s boyhood home, is a close friend of the governor and pledges to model his rule on Murphy’s one man leadership.

World Fliers Sixteen Hours Behind Time

Paris eyes turn to the United States round the world fliers as they pause in Paris after 260 hours aloft and 18 000 miles. Clem Adams of this place wired a rock around his neck and jumped into the Snake River near the falls, drowning after sending his son home to tell his wife. His body was recovered by a sheriff’s posse about 50 feet below the middle falls. Adams had been drinking heavily and faced family troubles and unemployment. Manila July 15 AP tentative plans for the trial of 206 Filipino scouts who refused to perform duty at Fort McKinley amid Bolshevik activity. MacAlexander Promoted to Major General in Utah

General Ulysses MacAlexander, now at Fort Douglas Utah, is selected for promotion to major general to fill the vacancy created by Major General Grote Hutcheson retirement July 20.
