Open switch collision near Steiger kills three, injuries six
A St. Louis bound passenger train on the Chicago and Eastern Illinois line collided with a suburban train at Steiger Illinois. Engineer Jas Luke and passengers George Epstein and Ferdinand Hoyn were killed. Six others were seriously injured as an open switch forced the St. Louis train into the siding where the suburban train stood.

Hay Fork Accident Claims Frank Hale Life in Idaho
In Lage Idaho July 15 a severe accident killed Frank Hale aged almost 21 while riding a hay fork from a stack. A derailed derrick and frightened mules caused Hale to be thrown from the stack, he died minutes later after a fifty foot fall. Funeral services will be held at Central. Hale was the son of J. H. Hale and well regarded in the valley. A separate note mentions the Soda Springs Lago telephone line project with W H Bassett as president and plans to have the line running to Lago by August 1st. Weather is suitable for haying though water shortages affect crops.
