Entries surge for Idaho state amateur golf tourney set Thursday through Sunday. About 75 to 80 players from Pocatello and southern Idaho expected, led by Eddie Harper a two time champion defending his title. Defending and veteran players from Twin Falls Boise and Nampa expected to compete as qualifying begins Thursday morning with some players allowed to finish by Friday 10 am if away from work. The new club house will open for inspection at 5 30 pm.

Stabbing Stirs Bellevue Beer Hall Fray
In Bellevue last night a beer hall brawl ended with Edward Quailey badly stabbed and Harry Brown jailed in Hailey on suspicion of the attack. Quailey, hurt in the chest abdomen and back, is reported in very serious condition at Hailey hospital. Deputy Ward Beck said bystanders separated the initial fight before the stabbing occurred.

Storm Claims CCC Foreman in Salmon National Forest
Clarence Schultz CCC foreman from Salmon Idaho was killed by lightning during a Salmon National Forest storm. C N Woods regional forester was advised. Schultz leaves a widow and two children. Two enrollees were stunned but recovered. The storm started 26 fires. regional report notes 71 fires in Utah Idaho and Nevada forests from July 1 to July 10 with only 50 acres burned. Dry conditions create high fire hazard statewide.

The Senate on July 12 approved 43 to 35 a plan to raise federal outlays for old age assistance by 80 million dollars a year. It would provide $2 from the federal government for every $1 from states up to $15 monthly, then dollar-for-dollar to $40, replacing the current 50-50 match up to $30.

Police Seek Forger in Car Theft Case
Police hunt for Wendell Lorraine Jr on forgery and car theft charges after Earl Hall of Intermountain Chevrolet signed a warrant. A black 1938 Chevrolet coupe with Missouri plate 15 670, once at Velox Service Station, was seen at the Intermountain garage for gas early today. Lorraine, about 22, 5 ft 7 in, brown hair, slender, wearing a light shirt and dark pants, is described as having a Florida mother and California father. A $10 check forged in Othela Skidmore’s name prompted a complaint to Justice of Peace William Hinckley. Federal action may follow if Lorraine crossed state lines with the stolen vehicle under the Dyer Act.
