Idaho governors and state officials urged major oil companies to explain gasoline price hikes and proposed state owned service stations to cut prices. Governor C Ben Ross cited a June price rise and a 26 cent Idaho retail rate, urging answers to justify the increase.
Boise on July 12 reports highway work contracted this year totals 2 000 000 with federal aid covering about 60 percent of the cost. Federal aid tract stands at 1 464 000 and plans include 759 180 more federal aid projects. State aid contracts total 254 664 with potential 250 000 more let. Additional state aid work brings total state aided activity to 416 107, with further contracts possible depending on highway receipts.
About 4000 delegates attend the Northern Baptist convention in San Francisco with Rev. W. Quay Rosselle of Malden Mass delivering the keynote. The gathering runs through Sunday with sessions beginning today.
Bozeman Gallatin county authorities seek three more suspects after a July 12 shooting at West Yellowstone street apartment owned by Mrs Betty Barber and Luke Hoffman. One man fired a shot after a dispute over cash, wounding Barber in the head. Pat Quinn is in jail on an open charge.
A. J. Chester Jr. of Fort Worth Texas son of the Texas and Pacific railroad superintendent shot himself in the chest while riding with Dave Reed in Denver's downtown district. Chester a Texas Christian University student had been touring with Reed. Doctors said recovery was unlikely.
Actress Claire Windsor tells the Los Angeles Examiner she invested $10 000 in broker Alfred C Read Jr and believed in a future together before his wife Marion Read sued for 100 000 dollars for alienation of affections. She says she hoped to marry him and planned to quit acting.
Thomas A. Marler reports excitement as a Rhode Island Red hen nests a seven inch by seven and a half inch egg. Upon breaking the anomaly, a normal sized egg with yolk and white was found inside the outer shell.
Judge Jay L. Downing schedules eleven civil jury trials in his district court with Sheriff W H Woodward ordered to summon twenty jurors. Trials begin Monday July 19 at 10 am with a list of jurors including T L Reddy and Claude Elsworth. First cases are Elizabeth Sheldon vs W H Steed and Nellie Bean vs W H Steed both at 10 am July 19.
Mrs. James J. Walker, wife of the New York mayor, returned home from Polyclinic hospital where she had a major operation recently. She appeared to be in excellent health.
The Senate Banking Committee approved the Wagner unemployment relief bill today and prepared for Senate debate. The panel kept the bill largely intact, while adding an amendment to reorganize the reconstruction corporation per the President’s recommendations and to bar loans to financial institutions.
In Clarksburg court today it was revealed that Harry F. Powers, the woman killer hanged for his crimes, allegedly forced Mrs. Dorothy Pressler Lemke to sign two checks totaling 4287 under threat of death before killing her. The civil action seeks recovery of the Lemke money and other property, with Lloyd H. Young qualified as executor of Powers estate.

Oklahoma City July 12 The fight over Will Rogers appearing as a Democratic candidate for congressman at large moves to the State Supreme Court. E. B. Howard seeks to remove Rogers from the ballot claiming the person is not Will Rogers and that the real name is William C. Rogers. The state election board ruled it lacked jurisdiction to rule on the protest.
Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald told Parliament that the United States cannot be blamed for its stance on war debts. He denied Lausanne officials considered a gentleman's agreement delaying the treaty's effect and noted informal talks with American representatives were social in nature. The premier explained that without such assurances, a return to the Young plan would be needed.

Winston Salem July 12 AP Sheriff Transon Scott said the Reynolds murder probe remains open and no final plan released. A coroner’s jury ruled Smith Reynolds died by a gunshot from unknown parties, freeing his widow Libby from detention amid sensational testimony.
The American Legion in Indianapolis declared it bears no responsibility for the non-service disability allowance for veterans. It blamed President Hoover's administration for pushing the measure through Congress after vetoing a Legion-backed compensation increase. The statement notes the law, incorporated July 3, 1930, was added by the administration, not by the Legion.
