Nathan Riggs a railroad conductor arrested for the Minneapolis hotel murder of Millie Ellison killed himself in his Elroy hotel room before officers could transport him to the crime scene. He had asked to see his wife and daughter and was granted permission to visit his room.
The Diamond Joe line steamer Quincy, en route from St. Louis to St. Paul, went ashore near Trepenteau on the Wisconsin side and sank after striking a sand bar. No fire and no loss of life were reported as about two hundred passengers were rescued and sent on to St. Paul or La Crosse.
Report from Warsaw notes about forty thousand Jews fleeing the city after threats of an outbreak. Armed guards patrol streets as able bodied men organize self defense while many shops close and residences empty.
London dispatch reports a motor omnibus from London to Brighton ran off a steep hill near Crawley after brakes failed. Thirty four occupants, mainly Orpington merchants, were flung about. eight killed outright and several others severely injured.
Paris July 12 The Supreme Court annulled the condemnation of Dreyfus without a trial clearing his name completely and entitling him to his former army rank as if never accused.
Vice Admiral Chouknin of the Black Sea fleet died this morning after being shot yesterday by a sailor from the battleship Otchakoff. He never regained consciousness and the assailant remains at large.
A carload of race horses passed through Pocatello en route to Butte for Montana races. The shipment includes Billy Main Susie Gregg Stokes Resign and a new mare owned by Stokes bought in Denver for about 250 dollars. In Denver her first race she won as a 25 to 1 shot, earning Stokes over 1000 dollars. The mare is described as a beauty.
At 1 am residents near Reuss & Co slaughter house heard three pistol shots and saw a man flee a brush fire. Investigators recovered burning clothing photos and letters. Police search the river for foul play as mystery surrounds the incident involving a well known young Pocatello man.
A cloudburst at Ocampo Chihuahua Mexico with a landslide washed away part of the city. Ten Mexicans were killed and many injured. Destruction hit Col W Greene's office and corral and Watteson Ming company reduction works.
The Gate City Commercial club will join the Sunday baseball excursion to Twin Falls in a body. The decision, reached by the governing board, aims to thank Twin Falls for hosting an excursion to Pocatello three weeks ago. The event is described as a magnificent affair.

Halverson proprietor of the Oak saloon on North Cleveland avenue appeared before Police Judge Krnesy this morning to answer a charge of selling liquor to miners in violation of city ordinances. A not guilty plea was entered through his attorney S C Winters who requested a jury trial. The court ordered a special jury of twelve to be drawn for a 2 o clock trial.

In twelve years in Oregon and Washington losses and expenses averaged not more than 50 0. Policy holders saved nearly a million dollars in premiums in two states.
