Pacific Fruit Express reports Idaho and Utah moved 42 091 carloads of perishable goods during the year ended July 1 with Idaho alone shipping 26 563 cars of potatoes and 5 404 cars of apples among many other items. June totals show 1 436 cars across both states.
The Methodist board of temperance and social service, South, and Bishop James Cannon Jr. attack the Democratic plank favoring repeal of the eighteenth amendment. They say party moral issues should not bind members and defend conscience against prohibition. Cannon cited Roosevelt as an opponent of repeal and Hoover's stance as against repeal.
In Marshallville Georgia on July 11 a trend toward horse drawn transport returns amid abundant livestock feed and low farm product prices. Mayor J Lyles leads the effort as residents revive an older era by pairing a buggy with a held over horse and even using a converted automobile for the retro mode.
Lake Elsinore Cal July 11 Reports say followers of evangelist Aimee Semple McPhersonHutton clashed over her husband David Hutton a choir singer at Angelus Temple claiming ouster by the flock He said let them try and noted he has not a red cent in the breach of promise case awarding Miss St Pierre 5000 to the nurse It follows Hutton eloped with McPherson to Yuma Ariz and she stands by her husband after she suffered a head injury in a fall while news of the revolt circulated
Seven passengers escape serious injuries when two cars sidewiped along the Old Oregon Trail five miles east of American Falls during heavy rain. Bud Gray drove the McCain car from Pocatello with Mrs Olga Whittemore and a McCain sister aboard. Lee Allen of Montana led the opposing car with his wife and child. Each car suffered about 100 dollars in damage.
Will Rogers writes from Muleshoe Texas praising Republican influence and money power as amatuer prosperity. He suggests promises of beer lift spirits among stock raisers and farmers while cautioning people about longer term consequences.
Libby Holman Reynolds described her husband Smith Reynolds threats and married life unhappiness at a coroner's inquest. Nurse Ruby Jenkins and night supervisor Ethel Shore testified about a hospital scene with Libby and friend Ab Walker. Libby cried of heartbreak and said Reynolds warned of breaking up the marriage for her sake.
July 1 conditions project a corn crop of 2.995 billion bushels this year, up from 2.557 billion last year. Winter wheat 431.762 million, Durum wheat 54.745 million, All wheat 736.971 million, Oats 1.217 billion, Barley 312 million, Rye 44.3 million, with last year’s figures shown for comparison.
The Senate ordered an investigation into loans by the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. Senator Couzens of Michigan led the move, urging scrutiny of legality and security of the loans. The inquiry named Couzens as chairman with Goldsborough, Walcott, Glass, and Fletcher on the committee.
Los Angeles reports the death of Martha Hughes Cannon 75 Utah’s first woman state senator and noted suffragist. A speaker at the Chicago World’s Fair, she is survived by son James H. Cannon and daughter Elizabeth Cannon Porter in California, and by siblings in Utah and Idaho.
Utah will experience showers and thunderstorms tonight with cooler air in the north and west regions. Tuesday brings partly cloudy skies as conditions ease across the state.
John Hughes Curtis was sentenced in Flemington New Jersey to one year in jail and a $1000 fine for hindering the capture of the Lindbergh baby kidnappers. The judge denied defense motions to arrest judgment and noted the maximum penalty could have been three years and $1000.
In Havana on July 11 Jaime Arias identified Archibald and Ramon Durland as occupants of the car from which Miguel Calvo, ex head of the Cuban secret police, was shot. The Durlands have Cuban links through their mother. their brother Addison resides in New York. Police report they were arrested Saturday night.
Late wire reports say the Bingham bill to modify the Volstead act was defeated and sent back to committee. A Lausanne agreement statement from Berlin claims Germany has no involvement with Anglo French power agreements. President Hoover delays St Lawrence talks with Roosevelt until a mutual treaty is secured. Paint Creek flood toll in Charleston West Virginia may reach twenty. World fliers Mattern and Griffin plan another Borisov forced landing attempt later this summer.
Police say Joseph Hannack, 45, shot three relatives to death after a quarrel over a broken wagon and then killed himself in Wishawaka Indiana. The victims and motive are described as tied to a family tragedy.
In Everett Washington on a Saturday fire destroyed two Swanson houses and three other structures at Index in the Cascade mountains. Charles Swanson 55 died in the blaze and a unidentified man and woman were believed killed. Swanson’s body was recovered as searchers looked for the couple seen nearby hours earlier.
July 11 Twin Falls Idaho searching parties combed a canal 16 miles east for two young women feared drowned after their car veered through a guard rail. Bernice Buchanan of Burley and Galil Taylor of Burley were en route from Twin Falls when the vehicle entered 10 feet of water. Esther Buchanan, Bernice’s sister, was found hurt on the canal bank and hospitalized as the hunt for the others continued. The car was later raised with no sign of the missing girls.
King C. Gillette died at 77 at his Calabasas ranch after shaping a world corporation dream with Theodore Roosevelt as president. The Gillette Safety Razor founder saw blades sales surpass a billion annually. funeral planned for Wednesday in Glendale.
Nurse Florence Jacobs found six month old Miles Schlapiak alone in a locked residence. Firefighters forced entry after police call, rescuing the baby from danger as the beef stew spoiled.
President Hoover vetoes the Wagner Garner relief bill and sends a counter proposal to Congress. He criticizes personal loans and urges loans to states, a public works plan, and increased Reconstruction Finance Corp capital to fund relief while warning against power for evil. Senate leaders anticipate ongoing debate through the campaign.
Washington July 11 The third party movement draws dissenters from orthodox tickets as Hoover and Roosevelt shape the presidential race. Prohibition party and Liberty party backers aim for a role akin to the Bull Moose and La Follette efforts, with other minority groups forming to challenge the main contenders.

Today's results show St Louis and New York games with final tallies 47 to 15 and 5 to 0 respectively. Cleveland split doubleheader with Philadelphia posting 9 3 in one game and 12 1 in the other. Brooklyn routed Pittsburgh 7 to 5 while Boston beat Chicago 8 to 2. Only two games scheduled.
Twelve people drowned as floods on Paint and Armstrong creeks near Charleston Kanawha county. Four bodies recovered on Paint creek and eight in the Kanawha river with more than 150 homes washed away. Debris floated down the Kanawha river while navigation was largely impossible.
