Chicago July 11 William J Calhoun former Interstate Commerce Commissioner has been named by President Roosevelt as special commissioner to Venezuela to determine the equity of the Asphalt company claims and related issues Calhoun previously went to Cuba on a similar mission for McKinley before the Spanish American War.
Portland July 11 two large attractions on The Trail at the Exposition halted operations amid allegations of heavy losses caused by refusals to allow Sunday openings. Management cut evening admission to 25 cents in a concession to the amusements seeking better attendance.
Indians in Indian Territory protest a statehood convention delegation list for Oklahoma City on July 12 that omits any Indian names. They say delegates are mostly politicians, plan contests from districts, and threaten to lobby Congress from Washington to oppose statehood.
LeGrande Hillhouse twelve year old son of David Hillhouse met a sudden death at his father’s Rockland ranch. He was left in charge of a team and mower when the team became unmanageable the boy was thrown and crushed with bruises on the head indicating the machine passed over him.

Omaha reports Dr. Frank Powell received a cablegram from Colonel W. F. Cody directing dismissal of Cody's appeal in the divorce proceeding. Powell says Cody halted the appeal at the earnest request of his only child Irma, wife of Lt. Clarence Armstrong Scott of Fort Thomas, Georgia.
Portland report says J. W. Holgarth, a rancher, died by his own action at Mrs. E Newcomb's lodging house. The landlady seized forty five cents from the decedent as payment for gas consumed before his death.
London July 11 The Associated Press confirms a report that an offer of the Norwegian throne has been made to King Edward’s son-in-law Prince Charles of Denmark. Britain’s government favors the project but awaits King Oscar’s reaction as consultations proceed. Charles’s mother was a daughter of the late Swedish king.

Tacoma news reports K Takeuchi an escaped Japanese convict from McNeil Island was captured near Gig harbor. Matt Moor another Japanese escapee was captured last night leaving Wade Castle and McCarthy at large among eight fugitives.
