Washington report says the wage dispute triggering a potential nationwide rail strike was settled peacefully. Management and the three railroad brotherhoods accepted a 1542 cent per hour raise retroactive to November 1, plus operating rule changes, returning control to private management as papers are prepared.
Two men were slightly injured when their Airborne plane ran out of gas and crash landed on U S Highway 30 east of Rupert. Pilot Charles W. Eight year old Bobby Wacaster of 596 Willard suffered a fractured right leg when struck by an automobile in the 900 block of Pocatello Avenue near the baseball park Thursday night. Driver Clyde King of 709 North Fifth and Bobby’s sister Wanda May Wacaster were with him. car skidded 26 feet before impact.

Harry E. Brown of Chicago drove a 1949 Mercury that struck a hayrack pulled by a tractor driven by James Lowe of Virginia on Highway 91 about 10 a.m. Thursday, one and three quarters miles north of Virginia. The United Mine Workers and president John L. Lewis were ordered to appear before the judge to show cause why an injunction should not be issued to end the 55 000 coal miners strike in steel company pits. UMW headquarters said Lewis was directed to present himself for the proceeding.
Organization of the first Dewey-for-President club in Idaho began in Pocatello with officers elected at the Hotel Bannock. Henry McQuade Bannock county prosecuting attorney was chosen president, Ed Leighton vice president, and Mrs. Bert Merritt secretary treasurer. Guest speaker J. D. Pocatello delegates Mal Deaton Ray Stratford and Lavern C Johnson will attend the Rotary 110th district assembly at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City on July 19 and 20. Johnson will speak July 19 on If I Were Starting My Year as Rotary President. The event is an instructional meeting for incoming presidents and secretaries with plans for the coming year and Rotary principles emphasized.
In Los Angeles Rex Harrison testified via deposition that he had no information about a second note related to Carole Landis death. The coroner’s hearing reviewed the actress’s death by her own action and Harrison called the incident a tragedy.
Plan announced by J L Craig secretary of the chamber of commerce states the Know Mississippi Bet ter special train will reach Pocatello at 8 15 p m on Wednesday July 14. Visitors from the south are greeted at a public reception in Manson Park and Pocatello guests may inspect the exhibit cars.

President Truman will review the separate air force for the first time when he flies to New York on July 31 for the Idlewild dedication. The White House said the aerial revue will involve 1,100 military aircraft in a 46 minute demonstration.
An American Carmelite brother Vincent Scheerer and two Filipino youths were plucked from the sea by a U S Navy amphibian plane after four days adrift on a mercy mission. They arrived at a Manila hospital. four others, including Father Leo McCrudden, are dead or missing.
