Unofficial returns show Spain ratifying by about 10 to 1 the law naming Francisco Franco chief of state and giving him right to name a successor. AP tally from 12 018 of 21 242 polling places reports 5 664 904 yes to 350 477 no and 195 855 blank with about 16 185 000 eligible to vote.
Gov. Thomas B. Dewey and Sen. Robert A. Taft clash over Texas support as Dallas Republican George Hopkins and Briggs visit to seek favor. Dewey aides aim to cut into Taft’s Texas edge, with Texas holding 40 votes. Dewey meets with Oklahoma figures and newspaper executives during a three day Texas visit. Wentz predicts Oklahoma’s 20 votes for Dewey.
A suspect fleeing a $10,000 holdup in Times Square area was shot dead by a patrolman aboard a crowded bus at 42nd Street and the Avenue of the Americas. The officer was wounded. the dead man carried jewelry and a Florida license bearing Joe Fernandez of Tampa, Florida.
Phyllis Sanders a 15-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Wesley Sanders drowned Saturday in waters behind Sunbeam dam near Robinson Bar north of Stanley Coroner Walter B Jensen said she slipped from the reservoir edge into deep water while running near the dam She was with her parents for a holiday weekend vacation.
James C. Petrillo says his American Federation of Musicians may seek to bar radio network broadcasts of music when contracts expire December 31 and may suspend recording contracts. He warns half of U S musicians could be jobless this year and cites Robert Toscanini Whiteman and Phil Harris as examples. He notes dissatisfaction with recording royalties and reveals a $46,000 salary plus $13,000 expense account.

In Dunbar, a small dog named Pat endured 43 days trapped in a sewer before a fox terrier alerted rescuers. Dr. H V Miller called the recovery miraculous as Pat, a ten pound Spitz mix, recuperates on raw liver with 13 year old Jimmy Moss caring for him. Pat disappeared May 22 and was found near a rock exit to the Kanawha river. Jimmy's mother Mrs Guy Moss said Pat fell into a break in the sewer.

A Pocatello physician, who declined to be named, explains the discs as a result of a retinal detachment causing brief flashes of circular light. Six locals report two groups of silvery discs moving rapidly on a street corner, described as floating rather than flying.
An ex navy ordnance man told Salt Lake AP that reports of flying discs could be six to eight inch shells from the Arco navy proving range. He noted disc like shiny bases and rotation. Capt W C Specht denied recent firing at the Arco range, dismissing the origin theory.

An Idaho resident for 33 years born April 13, 1875 in Beaverdam Virginia she was married to Ozro P Stanley who died in 1943. Funeral services slated Tuesday at 2 pm in the Third ward L D 8S chapel. Interment Mountainview Cemetery.
A disorderly mob of motorcyclists caused riots in Hollister over the weekend. Police were defied and order restored after scores were jailed. At least 50 people were injured, with several seriously, as downtown became a combined racetrack and stunt area.

Newport Washington reported 15 year old Robert Smith of Spokane was fatally struck by a car while riding a bicycle. Police say the driver was blinded by oncoming headlights and did not see the cyclist. the victim died after being taken to Spokane hospital.
Nationwide three day 4th of July period ends with 516 deaths from highway crashes drownings fireworks and other causes. California records 38 fatalities followed by New York and Pennsylvania with 36 each. Traffic deaths total 248 drownings 160 fireworks 5 other 103.

In Coeur d Alene five year old Curtis Howell drowned Saturday in shallow Windy Bay waters while parents prepared a picnic. The child, who had gone with a small girl, received over an hour of artificial respiration before being transported by boat for oxygen treatment. he did not survive. His parents are Mr and Mrs Roy Howell of Coeur d Alene.
