About 450 WPA workers in and around Pocatello walked off sites in protest of Congress raising monthly hours from 80 to 130 without pay increases. The projects were temporarily closed while officials gauge willingness of workers to return. reopenings planned once laborers consent to resume.
Dr James Monroe Smith linked to forgery in state university scandal. He remains jailed in baton rouge for bond default and faces possible rearrest if released. Investigators cite forged endorsement on a loan check as a key charge while detailing losses of 461000.14 from stock and grain trades with Fenner and Beane.
Boisen reports that wives of John Kesler and William Hunsucker persuaded the state pardon board to grant conditional paroles. The two 24 year old inmates, sentenced April 9, 1939 for second degree burglary, must provide periodic reports and face board revocation in October. Other clemency requests were denied or deferred.

A coroner's jury probes the killing of 73 year old J W Clarke of Horseshoe Bend at his mountain filling station. A robber stole fuel and cash while Clarke, reputed keeper of a large old firearm collection, faced a fatal confrontation. Police search for the shooter continues.
Denver reports warm reaction from silver mining leaders across the Rocky Mountain states to a proposed two year price of 71.11 cents an ounce. Dr Francis Thomson Montana School of Mines praised price stability as more vital than the level. Carl Trauerman Montana Mining Association expects job gains and relief burden easing. Robert Palmer Colorado Mining Association says entire west benefits. Reid Robinson Denver CIO unit calls it a victory for the New Deal.
The Associated Press reports a likely national strike by AFL construction workers on WPA projects after a new relief bill reduces monthly wages and hours. Thousands walked off jobs Wednesday as unions gauge support for a broader stoppage amid pay cuts and policy changes.
Al Stoker former exalted ruler of Pocatello lodge No 674 BPO Elks joins the national convention after fourteen years as an alternate. He departs Friday for St Louis where sessions run Monday through Wednesday. Delegate Emil Pew, Po catello lodge exalted ruler, is injured in a motor accident and cannot attend.

Miss Doris Scrowther daughter of Mr and Mrs R C Lewis Jr wed Hayden Stites in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon officiated by Mayor Robert M Terrell. The bride, a Pocatello social favorite and 1937 high school graduate, is secretary to E Brady manager of the Hotel Bannock. Stites, educated in Butte and Pocatello and Idaho Southern University graduate, serves as assistant advertising manager of the Pocatello Tribune Journal.
About thirty Ban nock county committeemen from ten communities met in the district court room to plan next year’s agricultural conservation program. Clegg Raymond of McCammon and W. C. McGregor of Cleveland led the meeting. A. J. Gilbert, county committee chair, was away in California. Under current AAA plans, county and community committees handle all conservation work, with the state extension department only advisory.
Bannock County Livestock Marketing association sold a 300 head hog pool to J. Rube Laren of North Salt Lake for 7.75 per hundredweight. The top lot shipment was sent to San Francisco, county agricultural agent A E Duke said.
