Pocatello to Get PWA Funds for Schools

Washington reports Public Works Administration officials expect presidential approval for 21 Idaho projects totaling 1.166 million dollars in grants and 6 thousand dollars in a loan. Flying boats span Atlantic inaugurates regular flights

The Pan American Clipper 111 reached Foynes Ireland after a 1960 mile hop from Botwood Newfoundland in 12 hours 40 minutes. The British Imperial Airways Caledonia completed the westward leg from Foynes to Botwood in 15 hours 9 minutes. Both flights carried no passengers or mail. Captain Harold E Gray led the Pan American crew of seven, greeted by President Eamon De Valera. The Caledonia, captained by A S Wilcockson with four crew, finished ahead of schedule.

Ford Charged in Warrant Over Dearborn Plant Beatings

July 6 Detroit The national labor relations board opened a hearing on its complaint against Ford Motor Co. A one man grand jury led by Judge Ralph W. Liddy issued an assault with intent to do great bodily harm warrant naming 15 Ford workers and the company over the May 26 beating of United Auto Workers organizers at the Dearborn plant. Everett Moore of the Ford service department and eight Ford employees along with six unidentified persons are named.

Pocatello Legion Ball Series Chosen for Eastern Idaho Title

Idaho Falls and Pocatello Juniors were set to clash for the eastern Idaho championship in a best two of three series. Coach Ray Brewster announced games July 13 at Idaho Falls 5 30 PM and July 14 at Pocatello 5 30 PM with a possible deciding game the following Saturday.

Showers cool off two states in intermountain region

Storms along the Wasatch slope brought rain and relief to Utah and Idaho. A second storm in 24 hours snarled traffic as 50 people were marooned three miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Idaho Falls reported 56 mph winds that damaged hay and wheat and downed power lines. Rain totals varied from .12 to .85 inches across Grand Canyon, Salt Lake City, Ogden, Pocatello and Yellowstone Park.

Woman held on kidnapping charge in Hoboken

Loretta Grabowski twenty one was arraigned in police court for kidnapping 3 year old Bella McCarthy whom she met in a park Saturday. Police Inspector Daniel Kiely said she is estranged from her husband and suffering from mother frustration.

Boise July 6 Governor Barzilla W Clark said he will offer E P Horsfall the vacant post on the Idaho liquor control commission. Horsfall formerly was chief engineer for the Idaho emergency relief administration and is now with the public works administration state headquarters. The position pays 4000 dollars annually.

Tenth serious case victim found in Cleveland

The headless torso of a man, Cleveland's tenth such victim, was recovered from the Cuyahoga River near a railroad bridge. Police say the killer has dismembered six men and harmed four women in a series dating back to 1934, with parts found along the river and shores.

Picket Killed in Plant Clash at Lloyd Manufacturing

Joseph Jozwiak aged 42 was accidentally killed during a clash between pickets and workers as Lloyd Manufacturing attempted to reopen after a June 22 closure. He slipped, fell under an automobile entering the plant driveway and was dragged about 300 feet, dying within a half hour at a hospital. Police said several non striking cars forced their way through the lines and two or three pickets were injured. The plant again shut its doors after the accident.

A hospital in Hiroshima Japan burned today trapping 21 patients who were unable to escape due to iron grille windows. Fire officials reported the fatal blaze disrupted hospital operations and prompted emergency response.

National Guard protects 3000 steel workers in Ohio plants

National Guard units bayoneted and machine gunned to guard three Republic Steel plants in Cleveland as about 3,000 workers returned after 41 days idle. Company tallies showed 1,500 of 3,700 Corrigan-McKinney workers, 850 of 1,700 Upson Nut and Bolt employees, and 600 of 1,000 Truscon Steel workers back. Union leaders questioned figures, alleging many are clerks and accusing company of importing strike breakers. Militias in nearby Niles and Warren faced stone throwing by union supporters.
