Nine Are Lost as Steamer Burns in Chesapeake Bay
A fire aboard the steamer Three Rivers bound from Crisfield to Baltimore off Cove Point, Chesapeake Bay, killed two Baltimore passengers James Mack and Evelyn Parker with Elijah Brogden dying later. A deckhand is missing and five newsboy band youths aged 14 to 17 are also reported lost. Survivors numbered about ninety, aided by the steamer Middlesex and other craft. Captain Spencer D Hall led rescue efforts as smoke and flames swept the vessel.
