In Kielce Poland a bloodiest postwar pogrom killed 34 people and wounded 42 as mobs looted Jewish homes and shops after rumors of Jewish involvement. Government forces with armored cars restored order and 62 suspects were arrested for military tribunals were planned.
Lieut. Col. John C. Herbst 36 ace of the Flying Tigers died in a crash at an air show near the Del Mar race track less than a day after his marriage to Jeanne Eve Murphy. Herbst served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later the U S forces tallying 27 planes credited.
