At Camp Dodge Iowa three African American soldiers were hanged after court martial for assaulting a seventeen year old white girl. Nelson Johnson of Tuscomba Alabama Stanley Tramble of Stroud Alabama and Fred Allen of Georgiana Alabama were executed with much of the division witnessing. Johnson and Tramble confessed while Allen claimed presence but denial of outraging the girl. Several spectators fainted during the execution.
