Improvements to Bannock Hotel Planned for Downtown

William W. Shields, Bannock hotel manager, announced a new 225000 dollar building at the corner of Arthur and Center streets. Construction starts September 1 with completion expected around March 1, 1950. The eight shops on the ground floor and 34 hotel rooms on the upper floors will be modern, with a refacing of the existing middle building to match the corner structure.

Heat Wave to Grip Nation Over July Fourth Weekend

Forecasters predict continued heat and humidity across most of the United States through the July 4 holiday with only the Great Lakes region northern plains and west coast escaping the heat. Little rain expected and drought areas in New York and New Jersey remain dry. A violent thunder squall with a sandstorm killed two in Galveston Texas as winds reached 75 mph.
