Mana Hawaii July 2 AP Richard Grace plans a lone hop to San Francisco or Los Angeles after a failed air takeoff. His 4000 pound plane damaged a tire on the rough runway and weather delayed the attempt. He will navigate using two magnetic compasses and a speed indicator.

Twin Falls reports thieves used a hammer and chisel to break into the Eden postoffice safe and stole between 115 and 125 dollars in cash plus 300 dollars in stamps. The burglary was found by postmaster C. H. Smith when opening the office this morning and authorities across the region are aiding the search, with some suspecting the same gangs behind last Thursday’s Hazelton bank robbery. Eden lies near Hazelton.
In Sacramento on July 2, Richard Dix, famed screen hero, saved Rah Fong a 50 year old Chinese passenger from danger aboard the steamer Pooping ulin when a fishing line tangled on the bottom. Local reports confirm Dix acted as a real life rescuer amid the filming of his current picture.

Boise, July 2 AP Under Sheriff Emmett Prost and Coroner William McBratney a crew of 30 men worked from morning until night in an unsuccessful dragging of the New York canal for the bodies of Mr and Mrs E H Little believed drowned Monday when their car left the Mountain Home Boise highway and sank in the canal The Little car was found yesterday submerged under nine feet of water Five miles of canal were dragged today with no success officers ordered the search to continue tomorrow If not found the United States reclamation service will be asked to drain the canal for a final check.
Idaho state bureau of highways advertises for bids on surfacing work for the 18 mile federal aid oiling project between American Falls and Pocatello on the Old Oregon Trail highway. Bids open July 9 in Pocatello. Construction begins by July 15 with a 30 day completion, replacing loose gravel with a surface for heavy travel.

Ottawa July 2 An American airman Lt Thad Johnson died when his escort plane crashed near Hunt club landing field during Lindbergh's arrival for Canada's diamond jubilee. A rear plane clipped his tail causing a nose dive. parachute opened too late to save him. Lindbergh immediately sought details and called for a formal investigation as crowds cheered unaware outside.
Commander Richard Byrd Bert Acosta and companions endured a violent welcome in Paris after landing the America in stormy seas. Acosta sustained a broken collarbone while Byrd rested under doctor orders but attended a presidential reception. A large crowd crushed near St. Lazare station causing damage and minor injuries, including to the wife of the naval attaché.
John and Mc Alester of Wallowa Oregon are the low bidders for the crushed rock surfacing of five miles on the Meira Hill section of the north and south highway. The bid totaled 19 125 dollars. Boise July 2 The Idaho Attorney General ruled that Japanese may legally own or lease city property in Idaho for residence and business under the 1929 Japanese restriction act and the U S Japan treaty The opinion notes Japanese cannot citizenship but may own real property under treaty terms and may occupy houses factories warehouses and shops
