Annual Celebration Opens on Saturday in Pocatello

Pocatello readies for the Days of Old Fort Hall American Legion event a three day celebration with a 6 am opening salute. Highlights include Colborn-Sorensen rodeo historical pageant a mammoth fireworks display and the Noonto parade with Days of 49 characters and a noon carnival on Main Street led by Monte Young. Local officials say the event will attract large crowds and photographers.

Rollins Death Mystery Near Glenns Ferry

Dan Rollins was found dead near where he had been cutting wood 20 miles north of Glenns Ferry. A. W. Klotz of Boise examined wounds and found no powder burns while brain concussion was cited. An inquest was recessed and jurors will be summoned again soon.

Hunt Sentenced to Three Years in Federal Prison

John Wuest Hunt, an associate of Father Divine, received a three year federal sentence for transporting 17 year old Delight Jewett from Denver to Beverly Hills in violation of the Mann Act. Judge Leon R. Yankwich denied Hunt’s appeal after a jury verdict.

Sheriff Returns With Wanted Man In Grandmother Theft

Sheriff M. J. Rossiter returns from Los Angeles with Jack Robinson sought for allegedly stealing 265 dollars from his grandmother.

Earhart off for Howland as Itasca loses radio contact

George Palmer Putnam said the coast guard cutter Itasca at Howland Island had established contact with Amelia Earhart en route from Lae to Howland. Shortly before 2 p.m. Pacific short stations reported failure to reach the Itasca, indicating its wireless was busy with Earhart's world circling flight.

Three men sought in Sheridan assault and robbery

Police search for three men after Henry A. Davis of Sheridan says he was strongarmed and drugged with liquor by trio in a sedan near the depot. He was robbed of an Elgin watch, signet ring, four $20 bills, one $10 bill, six $5 bills and seven dollars in silver after being pulled from the car in the 500 block of South Main.

The North River Insurance Co sues R L Getty in district court seeking 234.28. The claim stems from a September 18 1936 collision near the Brennan store on the highway north of Pocatello. Walter and William Akers owned the involved car. Lula Lemmon drove the Getty machine.

Federal agent Bartley had arrested W. M. Lloyd for selling liquor to an Indian. Lloyd suffered a heart attack in the county jail this morning and Dr. James R. Young was summoned to attend him.

June license revenue and totals from police bureau

Officer Tom Rush reports $230 collected for dog licenses in June bringing the total to 122 licenses issued since May 1. Reductions Made In WPA Workers

WPA administrator Harry L. Hopkins announced a cut of more than 124,000 workers in the two weeks ending June 26. The total employed fell to 1,621,151 as Hopkins aims to trim rolls to 1,665,477 by July 15. The city recorded 89 degrees by 2 p.m. and forecast higher heat as humidity made the warmth more noticeable. Billy O Brine arrives from Reno to climb the Whitman hotel at 7 p m Saturday with a straight jacket stunt and other tricks. The hotel firm says no definite arrangements have been made as manager Dave Elrod is away until Saturday. Fourteen Hurt as Drug Store Explosion Kills Five

Fireworks display in a drug store window in Nampa Idaho caused a quick ignition and blast. Five people died including Mrs Welen Daniels and Mrs Ernest Miller. 14 others injured, many at a beauty school on the mezzanine. Fire Chief L T Lessinger said the blast happened fast and the store was destroyed. Eyewitness Dora Smith described a huge explosion and panic as customers fled through a jammed back door.
