Crowds gathered in downtown Pocatello for the four day Old Fort Hall celebration opening with a mutt and hobby parade. A chicken owned by Donald Cooper won first in the trained animal division, a magpie placed second, and a Pekingese dog owned by Bobbie Moffitt took third. Awards also went to a children’s covered wagon float, a second place alive bring float by Constance Almond, and top clown and costume prizes. The event kicked off a schedule including a rodeo tomorrow with Idaho leaders in attendance and a public wedding tonight at the Orpheum theater.

Entombed Miner Rescued Alive After 22 Hours
In Shamokin Pennsylvania rescuers pulled Enoch Kuklinskie Jr from a 30 foot coal hole after nearly 22 hours entombed. The 35 year old miner gasped for air and was strapped to a plank then hoisted up as his 60 year old father looked on. He suffered no serious injuries though was shocked and thirsty. Doctors expect a quick recovery.

Coroner J T McCann announced an inquest to determine if James McDonald II 46 Boise heir to a Standard Oil fortune died by suicide or accident after carbon monoxide poisoning was found in his locked garage in Boise Ada County. McDonald a WWI veteran and former Idaho National Guard major was found at the car wheel by his wife Lulu McDonald. The coroner said no foul play is evident and a coroner's jury will meet to decide the death's cause. He was born May 8 1890 in Cincinnati and had a long Idaho residence with a prominent rustic mansion in Hailey and a Stanley Basin lodge.
