Hawley vetoes the revenue bill citing a forty percent valuation as the sticking point. A compromise tax commission bill, described as non partisan, is reported to have been agreed upon and will likely be sent to the Chief Executive for signature.
Gov Hawley vetoes House Bill No 31 the general revenue bill over its 40 percent full cash value assessment. A bipartisan Idaho tax commission bill drawn by two Republicans and two Democrats would create a tax commissioner under the state board of equalization with a 36000 salary and 10000 bond. The measure would empower investigations, complaints, civil or criminal action against noncompliant counties, and access to corporate books. State Senate activity notes a busy session aimed at clearing the calendar with suspensions and remaining House bills referred to state affairs.
Los Angeles reports that indictments from the MacNamaras bribery probe will be filed in Superior Court this afternoon. Assistant District Attorney Ford outlined the move as Burt H. Tittoni denies giving the interview as tensions rise. The Ernest Renan and several French ships lie near Nice within ten miles of the Italian border.

Washington reports the house received the army appropriation bill totaling eighty eight and a half million and the agricultural appropriation bill at fifteen million. The pension bill, likely to be expedited, carries about one hundred fifty million. A major blaze in Newark New Jersey today destroyed the large furniture store owned by John Mullins and adjoining buildings. The loss is estimated at 430000 dollars.
Washington Jan 29 The house resumed the iron and steel schedule after a midnight session. Republicans failed to amend the Democratic bill as insurgent Republicans were expected to back it on roll call. Longworth offered an amendment to remove machine tool steel from the free list but it failed. Democrats beat further amendments to tax sewing machines and printing presses and to limit the free list to nations without cottonseed oil restrictions.
Congress Democrats meet tonight to decide whether to advance the economy program in the current session. The key issue is the proposed sixteen million dollar public building bill, with Representative Underwood and Chairman Fitzgerald leading efforts to defeat it.
