Attlee stated Britain accepts Israel in principle after consulting Dominions and Brussels allies, amid abstentions and absences on a sharply debated motion.
Sacramento sheriff's officers questioned Fred Cather, husband of Anne Stewart Cather, a 23 year old beauty contest winner whose body was found nude with a shower cap after a hammer slaying. Cather was arrested in San Jose and returned to face questioning after authorities said he admitted a blank mind during the attack.
The House Armed Services Committee hears Secretary of the Army Royals say war is not imminent but remains a possibility. The Senate increases relief for snowbound western states to 3 million dollars and approves 750 thousand to reimburse federal roadkeeping costs in ten states. The House previously passed 500 thousand for the president's emergency relief fund after an initial 300 thousand for snow relief.

A separate two car Yellowstone highway crash near Fort Hall left California man John Bourquin dead and seriously injured Mary J. Scott with Reed Scott also hurt.
The district court summons a man, aliases I. Takahara and Lou Takahara, to answer a $534.68 claim by the Professional Adjustment Bureau. A probate court judgment in Bingham County dated July 22, 1942, is alleged, and the man disappeared from the state for over a year before being located in Pocatello.

In Boise bills to legalize wide open gambling on local option basis and pari mutuel betting on horse races were introduced as 32 new personal measures were filed. The legislature also debated highway department reform and a commission to negotiate a Snake river water compact with Wyoming.

Pocatello Moose Lodge plans a Saturday night dance to aid the March of Dimes drive. Governor Ralph Garrett says attendance is free but donations equal to an admission are expected. Joe Ortega and his orchestra contribute to the drive with Roland Young as dance chairman.
A new storm brings cloudy skies and sub zero temps across Idaho Nevada Utah Wyoming and Montana with readings from 21 below at Big Piney to six below in Salt Lake City. Snowfall remains light and many Utah schools stay closed due to gas shortages and blocked roads. Hill Field operates on minimum supplies as industries feel the chill.
Snowfall in Salt Lake City this season reached 73 inches before today, over 20 inches above the prior all time high for this period. If winter continues normal, total could top 100 inches, with the fall season record at 105.6 inches in 1916 17, while January mean temp stood at 17.4 degrees, 11.8 below normal.
The Hardy Lumber and Coal Co. reports a burglary at 1938 North Main early this morning. Entry was gained by breaking the front door glass and locking mechanism. About $5 in small change was stolen. a large hammer was left nearby and the cash drawer found in a tool shed. Deputies Cutler and Johnson suspectjuvenile culprits and say clues are being followed to secure suspects soon.
Pupils in the Pocatello grade and junior high schools began vacation at noon Thursday after exams. High school students finished exams and left for holiday at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Second semester classes restart Monday morning with report cards issued.
