Chicago January 26 labor shows no progress as eleven of twenty one unions remain undecided on a ten percent railroad wage cut. Carriers’ executives offered concessions while not revealing their vote status and labor leaders called the stance negative and unsatisfactory.
Earth disturbances in Jackson Hole Wyoming disrupted telephone service to Idaho and rattled buildings. The first quake at 3 15 a m woke residents, with two more strong shocks within minutes and further tremors until 5 a m. Bells and rumblings described as dynamite-like noises accompanied the events.
Washington reports the Senate receded from a minor amendment on the 500 million reconstruction corporation appropriation. The measure now goes to the White House after the House objected to a provision for clerical services in administering 50 million farm loan sections. Mt Vernon Ohio January 26 AP Senator C C Dill criticizes the Reconstruction Finance Corporation as formed chiefly to aid railroads with up to 1 billion in securities due next year. He says a large loan would entrench government in railroads and force further loans to protect prior advances, potentially taking over the rail system.

Boise January 26 Governor approves extradition of Mrs. F P Colburn from Sacramento to Pocatello to face grand larceny charges for theft of two earrings. Complaint filed by Jennie Colburn of Lava Hot Springs who says the earrings were taken in Pocatello December 18.
Mary Hansen, 62, a Salinas Valley widow, was held captive for about 36 hours as a six-person kidnap gang tried to extort 36000 from her relatives. She was rescued after officers traced a note to a Carmel cottage. The group included a woman known as Mrs. Mason, about 30, and was led by a telegraph store diagram.
Miami Beach, Fla. January 26 A speed trial reached 111.14 miles an hour on a northward run as Gar Wood aimed to surpass the world speedboat record. Motor trouble and timing gear failure halted the attempts, leaving the southward leg at 63 miles an hour and spoiling the required average.
Honolulu Chamber of Commerce named two attorneys Eugene H. Beebe and Barry B. Ulrich to assist in prosecuting Mrs. Granville Fortescue Lieut. Thomas H Massie BE J Lord and Albert O Jones in the Kahahawai slaying and to aid in the second trial of four youths charged with assaulting Mrs Massie following the murder.
