Cheyenne January 24 Both houses of the Wyoming legislature voted for United States senator Clarence DPD Clark receiving all Republican votes. His election will be formally approved tomorrow.
Washington Jan 24 Representative Martin of South Dakota proposes amending the national reclamation law to ease costs for settlers. His bill allows the interior secretary to extend payments beyond ten years when water costs exceed 20 dollars an acre, with annual payments never over 2 dollars per acre, potentially reaching fifteen years for a 40 dollar per acre project.
A Mexican leader Antonio Astizarian and two servants were fatally harmed by Yaqui Indians near the El Paso area where Americans were killed last Thursday. The incident occurred in the Texan region on January 24.

Olympia Wash January 24 The seventh ballot by the legislature for a United States senator showed Poster 40, Piles 29, Sweeney 28, Wilson 16, Jones 7, Moore 6, Graves 1 as many members were absent or paired in the tally.
Frank B. Stevens of Salt Lake testified as the first witness in the Smoot investigation. He described intense Mormon Gentile tensions and the easing after the Woodruff manifesto, praising Smoot but saying his Senate election was a mistake because nominating an apostle stirred Gentiles like a red flag before a bull.
A woman identified as Mrs Terry, about 20, was found dead at the Blatz hotel in Milwaukee. The man known as Terry, her husband, is missing. Police believe a double suicide was planned and that Terry fled after the woman's death.
The Emperor received Minister Giscom and the American legation staff in a special audience and hosted them at luncheon. He conveyed through the minister his great satisfaction with the cordial relations between Japan and the United States.

Mrs. Alice Webb-Duke wife of Brodie L. Duke was arrested on requisition from Texas for perjury. She allegedly made false statements that led stockholders of a National Bank in Nacogdoches Texas to endorse notes for twenty thousand dollars along with Charles L. Taylor of Chicago.
Congressman French wins committee support for a 25000 dollar appropriation to build an Idaho fish hatchery. He expects passage in the next session. Avery C. Moore of Grangeville and Hugh B. Miller of Boise are in Washington on business. A petition with 150 Blackfoot citizens seeks a rural free delivery route.
Governor Robert M. La Follette was chosen for United States senator by a Republican caucus in Madison. He won 65 of 107 on the informal ballot, with 26 for Joseph Quarles and the rest split among three candidates during the session. Both houses later voted separately and La Follette was named as senator.
Jefferson City, Jan 24 The fifth ballot for United States senator to succeed Francia M Cockrell produced no change Niedringhaus 80 Cockrell 79 Kerens 9 Pettijohn 1 Major William Warner arrived and said he is not a candidate. Republican state committee urged support for Niedringhaus caucus nominee. Pettijohn declined talk of speakership in exchange for Kerens backing Niedringhaus.
