The Oregon Short Line Railroad announces a February 1, 1902 rate cut in Idaho local passenger charges from five to four cents per mile on main line and branches except Wood River and Salmon River branches. The company touts decades of Idaho investment and improved service, urging newspapers to share the change.
Idaho reports include Nampa depot work to start within 30 40 days, Shoup comments on Idaho GOP efforts, Steunenberg timber land sales near Wallace and Moscow, pardon petitions for John J and Anton Volk, a large Council fire destroying multiple buildings with losses and no fire department, and insured damages affecting several downtown structures and a post office.

Weeter Lumber Co successors to Weeter Listline Lumber Co announce an 80 day sale offering all building materials at cost to clear stock after purchasing the business. Materials include lumber, plywood, doors, windows, and related products. Sale aims to avoid moving inventory and runs for the stated period.
Advertises Sherman’s Headache Cure as an instant relief remedy with a single dose claim. Promises guaranteed perf harm free relief and neuralgia relief, priced at 250 and 100 per box, available at Sprague's Pharmacy.
A party of Chesterfield skaters on the Portoeut river near Gooch's field report a terrifying pursuit by a hair covered eight to ten foot creature. Tracks measured seventeen and three quarters by seven and a quarter inches with four toes. Ranchers and twenty men chased the beast seven miles west as locals remain alarmed by the unknown wild man sighting.
A writer unable to provide a firsthand account cites John Gooch as the eyewitness from the moment the mysterious creature was heard until it vanished. Special January 16, 1902.
Washington reports say Ex-Senator Shoup and Judge Standrod pushed for a Roosevelt post office at Thunder Mountain with William L. Caddy as postmaster as mountain settlement grows from gold finds. They also pursued land office changes at Halley and Blackfoot and awaited word on Boise assay service and Lewiston changes.
City of Pocatello adopts Ordinance No. 102 regulating fortune tellers palm readers horoscopists and clairvoyants. Licenses cost 100 per year with quarterly payments and a minimum three month term. Violators face up to 100 fine or imprisonment or hard labor. The measure takes effect after publication in the 1902 Tribune.
EB Demmick of Somerville Indiana recalls seven years of stomach trouble and bed rest. After spending about $1000 with no relief, he found cure with Kodol Dyspepsia Cure. The product aids digestion without dieting and claims to cure all stomach troubles. Hoans drug store and HL Whittlesey promote it.
Progress reports describe near completion of excavations for the new shop and roundhouse, rock foundation work starting, and power house trenches underway. Contractors Grace & Hyde advance with temporary offices, site offices, and material deliveries while officials from Utah division inspect and plan next steps.
