Twin Falls county farmers believe land prices have peaked and will not rise in 1947, a national rural survey led by Edward Carrington of Filer finds. In this county 45 farmers were selected by hat draw to be interviewed. 1946 saw farm laborers averaging 300 work days with daily pay from 6 to 8 dollars, and production set new records with fewer farm accidents than prior years.
An 11 year old girl Arlene Waters was freed early today a block from her home after a reported kidnapping. Police said the abducting driver took her through hills for several hours before releasing her and taking her to juvenile hall for examination. Her sister Jenice, 14, described a dark haired youth pulling Arlene into a car during a walk.
Ore from the Triumph mine near here will be sent to Salt Lake City for processing. The shipment is scheduled for Saturday, signaling a blaze incident affecting ore handling and company operations.

A two car collision at the U S highways 89 and 91 intersection in Lehi Utah killed Lamar P Dehl 26 a Farmington native and long time Lehi resident. Four others were injured in the early yesterday crash drawing state and local investigators to the scene.

In Atlanta an exchange between Governor Herman Talmadge and Lt. Gov. M. E. Thompson ended with both sides agreeing to take the dispute over the governorship to the courts. Thompson said he would act as senate president and acting governor until a court hearing decides the matter. Talmadge asserted he remains governor.
Eight people died in Washington on Sunday in a series of tragedies. A Seattle fire killed a father and his 3 month old son. Others perished in traffic crashes, an air crash, a train strike, and a gas-filled motel death. Authorities identify the victims and continue investigations.
Pocatello enjoyed milder weather Sunday and today with a 24 hour high of 36 and low of 13. The weatherman calls for partly cloudy skies tonight and Tuesday with little temperature change and a low not to exceed 15 and a high between 30 and 35. Sunset today is 5:27. Surrounding towns report Boise 25/10 Burley 36/15 Butte 35/11 Dubois 23/5 below Idaho Falls 26/2 Salt Lake 33/18.
CHICAGO Richard Hebert 22 credits a flame from a coal gas explosion with restoring sight to his blind left eye after two years. Hebert suffered blindness from a wartime German blast and later regained vision in the eye that was believed not physically damaged. He says a boiler explosion at his father’s tavern caused the flare that revealed sight.
The CIO Inter national Mine Mill and Stelter Workers union filed two federal suits seeking 1 378 000 in back pay and damages from American Zinc Lead and Smelting near Metaline Falls and Howe Sound Mining in Chelan county for portal to portal work. Plaintiffs claim 46 hour weeks instead of 40 due to required pre labor preparation. With nine portal to portal suits filed locally and in Coeur d Alene the total sought reaches 7 178 659.
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that a draftee who reported for induction on Armistice Day 1918 but was sent home is not entitled to a certificate of honorable discharge. The decision means such persons are not veterans and not eligible for veterans rights and privileges.
Robert Manley, 25, a pipe clamp salesman, is booked on suspicion of murder in the mutilation death of Elizabeth Short, 22, a Hollywood hopeful. Capt. Donahoe says evidence appears on Manley’s side, with the suspect under questioning and a completed lie detector test described as confused. Short, formerly from Medford Mississippi, was identified by police as the widow of an army major.

In Rock Springs Wyoming Edith Moore 39 was shot three times by her estranged husband Alfred Samuel Moore 45 who then cut his throat with a razor and died. County Attorney Albert E Nelson quoted Moore saying If I can't have you no one can Moore shot her when she returned from a movie Their bodies will be sent to Morberly Missouri for burial Moore a coal miner here left two young sons survive
The 1 800 ton Chimarra sinks twenty miles east of Athens after a mine explosion. 548 passengers and crew of 87 were aboard with 198 confirmed survivors. Officials attribute the loss to a mine with possible sabotage reports.
Dave Martin, a 76 year old Idaho farmer, regained sight after an operation in Spokane in November. The Coeur d Alene Lions Club moved a small house to his farm and he and his mule Jenny walked to the new home. He praised the sky and noted that girls look prettier now.
Campaign and election day attacks by the underground on poll commissioners and militiamen cost 133 lives. Government reports 35 poll officials killed, 24 kidnapped presumed slain, 16 underground fighters dead, 58 militia members dead. Attacks beaten off in Lublin Poznan Reszow and Bialystok districts.
Laraine Day, previously of Salt Lake City, obtained a divorce from Airport executive Ray Hendricks in Los Angeles. He filed a sharp answer accusing her of a romance with Leo Durocher, which he later withdrew. Day said she plans no comment on marriage and cited overcritical behavior and weight loss as grounds, noting a separation occurred last November 14.
Police said a denatured alcohol and paint remover mixture served at a party last Wednesday led to six deaths and four others seriously ill. At least four more drinkers did not seek medical help, and one more is in critical condition. The mix was described as a cheap substitute for liquor.

Fourteen of Idaho's 16 Democratic senators introduced a package in the 29th legislature to cut state income taxes by exempting more income and to legalize slot machines, horse and dog racing, and pari mutuel betting. The tax plan would raise exemptions to 1000 for singles and 2500 for couples with 500 per dependent, and cites 1946 figures showing Idaho collected 3.77 million from about 100k filers and 1,851 corporations.
