Zero weather and sharp winds worsen conditions for marooned families in a Knox county area. The Wabash River fell four inches, ice formed in channels threatening bridge abutments, and 190 feet of levee on the White River gave way pouring floodwater over 20 000 acres of farm land near Decker. About 100 families await rescue as efforts resume.
Arthur Woolly of Ogden is appointed by Judge Eugene E. Pratt to defend Delbert Green charged with murdering his uncle James Green in Layton on January 4. Green was arraigned, did not plea, and asked the court to name Woolly. He has confessed to killing his 18 year old wife Oladya and her mother and stepfather.
Two federal prohibition agents were killed while attempting to search a residence in West Palm Beach Florida. The incident occurred as agents, working with a local federal office and allied to Prohibition Commissioner Deran, faced gunfire during the operation.
Senator Key Pittman of Nevada and his wife escaped unharmed as his 60 year old suburban home near Weasley Heights burned in a pre dawn fire during heavy snowfall. Two firemen were injured and damage was heavy with estimates ranging from ten thousand to seventy thousand dollars. the cause was blamed on an overheated fireplace.
Snow slows a large air and land search for Maurice Graham, veteran flier and air mail pilot, as Grove pilots, naval planes, and army units comb wild Utah Nevada terrain from Caliente to Meadow and Las Vegas. Troops press on while street levels and weather disrupt travel.

The fire at the Grimm Alfalfa Seed Growers association warehouse in Blackfoot destroyed 500000 to 600000 pounds of Grimm alfalfa seed and five to six cars of seed for immediate delivery. Estimated losses range from 706000 to 250000 dollars with most seed burned or water damaged, jeopardizing world supply. Remains of seed were salvaged where possible and used in drying efforts.
A fire at the Grimm Alfalfa Seed Growers association building in Blackfoot collapsed part of the wall around 2:30 PM Saturday. Sparks and embers from burning seed huddled in a smoldering pyramid in the basement where a large quantity of seed was stored, while nearby Potato Growers' association buildings faced the blaze across the street.
Gladys May Parks was found guilty by a jury of second degree murder for the death of Tim Rogers two, and manslaughter for Dorothy Rogers four, both children left in her care. Sentencing set for Monday.

Superior Judge Ernest M. Card sentenced Sydney Holgate, once a Tacoma schoolmate, to seven to thirty years in the penitentiary after he pleaded guilty to multiple bad check charges. Holgate admitted issuing at least 150 bad checks over three years, and referenced their shared boyhood past as he spoke of his dope habit.
Shad Hodgin of Twin Falls announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race. He backs Attorney General Gillis, leaving three candidates: Gillis, John McMurray, and Byron Defenbach. Hodgin cites his law practice demands and financial considerations for stepping aside.
